Jan. 30/31 - Tue/Wed - Stop and rewind - we took some time to really look at Dominant and Recessive Traits. We took an inventory of traits (like how many people had dimples, blue eyes etc) What we found was that the dominant trait isn't always the most common or highest frequency. Dominant doesn't mean dominate so some recessive traits are more common. Men aren't the only ones with dominant traits. Heterozygous alleles or genotype like Bb is always going to be dominant. With these rules practiced we tried doing some Punnet squares backwards. We agreed that we would write genotypes and phenotypes in percents and be OK if we saw them written as fractions. ex. one out of 4 boxes is BB, so 25% BB or 1/4 BB. Look at the PPt and the worksheets and see if you can catch up with us. We learned about dominant and recessive Pedigrees, completed the Harry Potter Lab then practiced with "Making Pedigree" sheet.
