In a 2015 report issued by Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS), it was determined that 16.3% of high school-age students in South Carolina are considered obese. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that, in 2015, the population of South Carolina had obesity rates of 20.3% for 18-25 year olds, and 33.4% for 26-44 year olds. The mission of #ChapinFitness is to encourage teens to maintain an active lifestyle in order to prevent the statistics from continuously increasing! How can students create a healthy lifestyle outside of the school day? We can show students how to incorporate physical activity in their daily routines. After three successful years, members of the class of 2018 will be given the opportunity to encourage and motivate each other to become physically fit by running a half-marathon! Sponsored by Student Activities Coordinator, Billie Williams and Teacher/Personal Trainer, Lori Latham, these students will continue the tradition of the CHS Senior Half-Marathon Challenge. They will follow a training schedule and participate in preparations for the 2018 Run Hard Columbia Half-Marathon.

    • Information Meeting and Sign Ups for the 2018 team will begin in December 2017.
