Getting Started

Start SMALL!

When I started this adventure, I knew I wanted options for all the teachers at my school. I even wanted to include the rest of the students. I knew that none of that would happen if I tried to do too much too quickly.

Use what students know

Some of my students knew a little about making coffee. I used this prior knowledge as a jumping off point for the rest of my students.

Practice. Practice. Practice!

The first month of the coffee shop was practice round after practice round. Teachers could win free coffee and would give feedback.

Don't be afraid to let students lead

Soon I had a few students who were ready to fly solo. I was able to delegate more responsibilities to these students. This allowed me more one-on-one time with those who needed it.

Watch them grow!

Friday mornings became a whirlwind of work and excitement. My students are learning real world skills that can be transferred into many other work settings.
