You will be encouraged to apply to become part of the Senior Prefect Team. The prefects represent the school at a large number of public events. They are the voice of the sixth form, representing the views of the student body to the Achievement and Leadership teams. The Prefects also organise and run events for the sixth form. There are opportunities for all students to volunteer to represent the school at public events such as parents evenings and open evenings, acting as guides and advocates of the school.

We encourage all students to participate in activities outside the classroom and outside school to broaden their general education. Whilst contributing to their community their powers of leadership and organisation are further developed. The following opportunities are available to you:

We offer a wide range of opportunities for students interested in STEM subjects and/ or pursuing a STEM subject at Higher Education. Opportunities have included participation in the Engineering Scheme Wales.

Arwyn Bertram - Deputy Head Student

During tutor time there are a number of weekly activities delivered by the Sixth Form team.  All activities are designed to give you all the information needed to be a well rounded and informed individual, ready for when you leave.

Monday - Monday's are briefing days, where Year 12 & 13 meet in the Common Room for an update from the Sixth Form team regarding all the activities that week.  This has been delivered remotely through current times.

Tuesday - we have a TedEd talk, where we pick various topics that we feel students would find interesting.  After watching the video we can explore the topic more in-depth through discussion.

We mix up the topics relating to different subject areas, and also explore personal development topics and those relating to health and wellbeing.

Wednesday - This is a chance for students to take part in Workplace Wednesdays, where we explore different careers and the routes into those chosen careers.

It gives us a chance to explore entry requirements, required subjects and all other information they may need to know in order to pursue that career.

Thursday - This is where we encourage independent study through Kinuu, Open Learn and Future Learn.  MOOCs are great opportunities to further learning and to also explore topics they are interested in that they may not be studying about.

Friday - VESPA day - Mr Green is delivering VESPA sessions to improve your mindset. VESPA stands for Vision, Effort, Systems, Practice and Attitude. Through a range of talks and activities, these are aimed to improve your mindset for Sixth Form and beyond.

Belonging

We also embrace and promote our school belonging philosophy.  Our Year 12 students are all trained to be mentors, supporting our students with numeracy and literacy support.  Each student provides 1-2-1 assistance during 2 tutor sessions a week. This not only builds the 'belonging' ethos, but gives them experience and skills that will help them on their CVs and UCAS personal statements.

Wellbeing

We encourage taking part in an activities to support their wellbeing. This could be walking, colouring, music, crafts and more. We also run monthly 'Wellbeing Bakes' where students get the chance to follow a recipe and bake something. We are also introducing 'Film Night' where will put on a movie and provide the popcorn.

Life Skills & PSHE

We provide an extension list of support in terms of both PSHE and Life Skills.  Whether it's cooking, mock interviews, budgeting or first aid, we pride ourselves in supporting our students become a whole rounded individual, prepared for the world post A Levels.
