We take pride in preparing you for the next step in your learning journey beyond school, be it applying to university, for apprenticeships or preparing for employment. Our dedicated and highly experienced UCAS team of personal tutors will work very closely with you to support your preparation for application and interview.

This will also include specific guidance for early applications to Oxford and Cambridge Universities and Medical, Dental and Veterinary Science applicants.

We collaborate with the Careers Wales Service and Unifrog in a bid to support successful integration into the world of work for those choosing employment as their post sixth form pathway. At Lewis Girls’ you will find:

It is vital that in any aspect of your life you set goals. However, planning how you are going to get there is often overlooked.

Your option choices should be based on your future plans eg. higher education (university) or employment.  Prior to selecting your subjects, find out the requirements for the university course or a career you have in mind. You need to work backwards; websites such as Careers Wales and UCAS are good starting points.

If you are unsure, a broad range of subjects may suit your needs and these will need to be discussed with staff and the careers team.

I look forward to you joining our Sixth Form in September 2024.

  Lewis Girls' School Website

To support our year 11-13 learners, we have extended our Sixth Form website to include a transition section, catering for all pathways post-Sixth Form.  Whether it's universities, degree apprenticeships, apprenticeships or employment, we provide you with an endless amount of information and resources to support your next move.  This can range from gaining work experience, to watching online lectures, to listening to interviews with ex-students talking about their journeys from Year 11 to where they are now.

Sixth Form Link Ups

To support our year 11-13 learners, we have also developed links with a number of outside sources to support transition into specific careers.

Medic Mentor

To support our students interested in careers in medicine, dentistry and veterinary science we have linked up with Medic Mentor to provide support and guidance in those fields.  They provide regular sessions, interview help and more for those signed up.

Springpod

Springpod is a website that provides virtual work experience and links to many employers in various sectors.  Our students have engaged with virtual experience in areas such as teaching and journalism to really boost their knowledge and their university applications.

Unifrog

Unifrog is a great online tool available to our Sixth Form to support their journey during and beyond Sixth Form.  Whether it is researching specific careers, looking into apprenticeships or working on identifying their strengths and weaknesses, the website is a valuable tool in their progression post-18.

Aneurin Bevan Health Board

We have worked with ABHB to support our learner interested in nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy and care-based jobs.  ABHB provide training in safeguarding, confidentiality, professional communication and more.  It has also provided us to link up with Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr that has seen our students gain work experience via the Ffriend i mi program and additional training with Dementia Friends.
