Playing Tips
Playing Tips
The 6ePick features a novel modular system with two Playing Tips, one at each end of the Main Body. A Playing Tip consists of two connected parts: the insert and the tip, as shown in Figure 1. The insert serves as the mounting portion and fits into a socket on the Main Body. It is secured with a small screw that passes through a hole on the left side of the neck of the Main Body into a threaded hole in the insert. See Figure 2.
This practical design allows musicians to quickly replace worn or broken tips, or to swap in different styles or thicknesses depending on preference or playing context. The insert portion is standardized across all tips, meaning all tips share identical insert dimensions, and sockets across various Main Body sizes are uniform in size. Thanks to this design, any Playing Tip can be interchanged between sockets on the same Main Body, or between different sized Main Bodies entirely—providing maximum flexibility for users.
The tip portion resembles that of a conventional flat pick but with a key distinction: it includes a thickened shoulder at its base, which presses against the Main Body. Standard Playing Tips all share the same length—from the base of the insert to the end of the tip—approximately 21 mm. However, they will be manufactured in a wide range of thicknesses to suit musicians’ diverse needs. To help identify thickness, each tip has an embossed marking on one side.
An alphabetical system is used to label tip thicknesses, with ten thicknesses presently being offered, as shown in Figure 3. Letters have intentionally been skipped in the labeling system to allow for possible future thicknesses. Testers will receive four tip sizes: Size C (0.46 mm), Size E (0.71 mm), Size G (0.96 mm) and Size J (1.2 mm).

For users who don’t wish to utilize both playing positions—either permanently or temporarily (e.g., during live performances), a number of ornate, non-functional Playing Tips are available (see Figure 4). These provide additional aesthetic flair and add to the customization potential of the overall 6ePick system.

Both standard and ornate Playing Tips will eventually be produced in various materials. For now, testers will receive versions made from two different plastics, but due to the 6ePick's Patent Pending status, specific material compositions are not being disclosed at this time.
As noted, a Playing Tip is secured into a socket with a small screw, but we need to strongly emphasize that it is a VERY SMALL screw! It is recommended to use a magnetic screwdriver, though the stainless steel screws have limited magnetic pull. Therefore, one should perform removal/installation over a box or similar container to catch any dropped screws.
Users may opt to omit the screw and rely solely on the insert's snug friction fit. This allows faster, tool-free tip changes. However, be aware this increases the risk of dislodgment during aggressive play. As a guideline: use the screw during performances or high-intensity sessions, and skip it for casual playing, practice, or experimentation. Testers are encouraged to explore this aspect. For example, you might try wrapping a bit of paper or tin foil around the insert to enhance the friction fit inside the socket, while skipping the screw—I’ve been experimenting with that myself!
