Typically, Psychology graduates pursue careers related to teaching, industrial/organizational psychology, and psychometrics. However, some graduates also choose to pursue further studies, specializing in fields such as Clinical Psychology, Social Psychology, I/O Psychology, Sikolohiyang Pilipino, and Developmental Psychology.
The Letran Psychology Program requires the need to maintain a quota grade of 83 for major subjects. This is to ensure proficiency in the key areas of study.
The new curriculum covers a total of 4 subjects for the Qualifying Exam. This includes the following:
Abnormal Psychology
Developmental Psychology
Psychological Assessment
Industrial Organization
Note that the specific topics under each subject will be provided by the Psychology Faculty.
While the previous qualifying exam provides options for remedial classes and retakes, the ultimate decision on the necessity of retakes will still depend upon the decision of the Pñrofessors in the Psychology area.
The qualifications for running vary based on the specific position a student aims to take, distinguishing between roles such as an executive council and a committee staff.
One advantage of pursuing a BS in Psychology as a pre-med program lies in the opportunity it offers to enhance one's research skills—a crucial skill for students aspiring to enter the field of medicine. Particularly at CSJL-Manila, Psychology students engage in at least one comprehensive research study every semester, irrespective of their year level, except for fourth-year students who are focused on completing their internship units during their final semester. Ultimately, Psychology graduates develop proficiency in scholarly writing, critical thinking, and a keen interest in conducting studies that contribute to societal well-being—all essential qualities for aspiring doctors.
However, one disadvantage of this path is the limited opportunity to delve deeply into subjects heavily rooted in science and mathematics. While Psychology students do cover math and science units, including chemistry and statistics, other programs—such as BS Biology or BS Medical Technology—are more advantaged, as they offer a broader array of relevant units crucial for medical studies.
BS Psychology can be a good pre-law. As an aspirant lawyer, one needs to possess the skill of effectively assessing individuals. Psychology majors delve into areas like perception, cognition, emotions, and social dynamics, which offer insights into human behavior within legal contexts.
Specific courses offered in the BS Psychology program, such as Social Psychology and Cognitive Psychology, hold significant relevance in the legal field. For instance, understanding social influence and persuasion can aid in comprehending jury decision-making processes. Likewise, awareness of cognitive biases proves beneficial in scrutinizing witness statements.
Becoming a member of the Letran Psychology Society (LPS) involves enrolling in the BS Psychology program at Colegio de San Juan de Letran - Manila. Additionally, a membership fee of 150 pesos is collected from students to enable them to benefit from the programs and projects organized by the LPS, while also assisting the organization in funding such events.
Officership within the LPS is primarily divided into three categories: (1) serving on the Executive Committee (ExeComm), (2) holding a position within a committee, and (3) representing either a batch or a class.
The opportunity to become an LPS Executive Committee officer, committee officer, or batch/class representative is contingent upon the bylaws outlined in the currently used LPS Constitution and By-Laws.
There are no other licensure examinations available for BS Psychology graduates apart from the Psychometricians Licensure Examination, which is regulated by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). However, individuals have the option to pursue an examination to become a CHRA or Certified Human Resource Associate. This assessment is administered by the Human Resource Educators' Association of the Philippines, Inc., and is designed to evaluate foundational knowledge in the field of human resource management.
