Letran Senior High School spearheaded “Juana be Safe”, a workshop highlighting self-defense, to formally commence the celebration of Women’s Month, on Friday, March 7, at St. Thomas Hall.
This event was led by Ms. Brendaley Tarnate, a certified Muay Thai practitioner from Samahang Kickboxing ng Pilipinas with multiple recognitions for her professionalism.
“This event serves as one of the inaugural seminars for this month’s celebration placing importance on self-care of faculties and staffs in terms of mental and emotional health, to develop confidence that may represent an ideal role model for students, and to ensure their safety and well-being,” Ms. Geraldine Lagmay, the SHS Principal, said in an interview.
Starting with the proper stance down to the ‘tiger walk,’ the SHS faculty members and staff were taught a step-by-step procedure in learning the basics for Martial Arts, and were given a firsthand experience in executing their new found skills.
Additionally, the speaker also emphasized how self-defense is not only a tool against danger, particularly in times of an assault, but also a medium for teachers to build a trusting relationship with their students and promote peace over violence.
The workshop ended with the awarding of appreciation by Ms. Lagmay for the successful afternoon and effort of the Colegio in promoting self care among its community.
