The Letran Senior High School Department went head-to-head against each other in a sweet and sugary yet intense showdown of craftsmanship today, March 22, 2024, at the Salon de Actos, for the dessert decorating event of the Letran Team of Quatre Epices (Le Toque) Club.
With the theme, “Vibrantes y Consechas: Colorful and Bountiful Season Full of Vibrant Hues and Abundant Harvests,” the venue exploded with energy after Mr. Christian Reyes, the Le Toque Club Adviser, gave his opening remarks where he emphasized the importance of this event.
“Number one is to enjoy decorating—kung ano mang decoration ang gagawin niyo,” Mr. Reyes stated.
He also mentioned that this event aims to promote camaraderie among its members.
“Alam kong yung ibang groups dito ay hindi magkakaklase, kaya sa event na ‘to maipakikita niyo rin ang teamwork with each other,” he later added.
This dessert decorating activity is a continuation of the cake decorating event held last year and will serve as the culminating activity for Le Toque's Alternative Classroom Learning Experience (ACLE).
As the go signal was given, the 16 groups sprung into action, turning each dessert into an edible canvas of self expression and creativity.
Each of these groups was given one hour to decorate their chosen dessert while the judges, composed of Senior High School teachers such as Mr. Rolliezon Tagaytay, Ms. Maria Jessa Tenero, and Ms. Ruth Manding, roamed around to critique every participant.
In a statement, Ms. Tenero revealed that their judgment is purely based on the aesthetic appeal of the desserts.
“We could taste it but what we are really looking for is the design, its uniqueness, and technique,” she said.
While the judges convene together to tally up the scores, the pressure of the competition was somewhat alleviated when Lhara Morales, from STEM12-D, entertained the participants by her cover of Paasa by Yeng Constantino. This was briefly followed by the fiery performance of Danza En Ritmo Performing Group.
After the deliberation of the judges, Group One’s Indian Halo-Halo, Group Fifteen's ChocoLava, Group Four's Strawberry Shortcake were crowned as the first, second, and third placers, respectively. They all received a certificate, trophy, and corresponding monetary prize.
“Lahat ng gawa niyo, lahat ng nandito ay napakaganda,” the Letran Student Discipline Coordinator, Ms. Monique Molina, asserted, praising the outputs of all the participants.
“For your teamwork and all of your efforts, I want to congratulate you, Le Toque,” Ms. Molina further commended.
John Ashley Magora, one of the winning contestants from Group Four, said that it is not about winning anymore. But rather, about the friendships and all the experiences that they have made along the way.
“Nakakatakot, nakakakaba, pero sinantabi namin ‘yon to come up with this output,” he confessed.
The program successfully ended with the singing of the Himno del Colegio.
