Welcome to the Leon High School Women's Soccer Program! We currently support both a Varsity and Junior Varsity team with funding support from the Booster Club and the Leon County School District. Our mission is to provide a fulfilling experience for the players, and to help create lasting memories and friendships that will endure through the game of soccer.
Coaching staff and parent volunteers are dedicated to making each season memorable and fun, and we can't wait for you to join us in making our 2025 - 2026 season the best it can be!
The goal of our program is to win the District title each season and progress to the State Playoffs. To achieve this, we believe that playing against the best competition in our region prepares our players to meet this challenge. The structure of the soccer program follows the guidelines of the Leon County School Board, and the rules of the game are set by the Florida High School Athletic Association. Leon High School provides the practice field, playing field and gym, the utilities and soccer portable, the concession stand and spectator seating, grounds keeping and maintenance. The cost of other items, such as equipment, uniforms, game officials, and travel expenses (food and lodging), are covered by player fees and fundraising by the Booster Club.
Our Booster Club is a nonprofit organization which conducts our daily business, and every parent or guardian becomes a member of the Booster Club by virtue of their child being accepted into the soccer program. The Booster Club is under the direct supervision of the Head Coach, and is organized under a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors meets with the Head Coach regularly and works to support the coach's goals and strategies for the team. Booster Club meetings are held periodically to provide information, guidance, and support for players and parents. For the 2025-2026 season, Board meetings are held on the first Monday of each month in the Media Center at Leon High School.
For the 2025 - 2026 season, the fee per player is: $250 for both Varsity and Junior Varsity players. Fees go towards items that directly benefit the players or that they can keep (for example practice jerseys, socks, banquet, awards, etc.). Because the total direct costs incurred by the program are not fully covered by player fees, they must be offset by fundraising!
Among other things, our player fees help underwrite the cost of:
New socks for each player *
Referee fees
Tournament travel expenses (transportation, lodging, and food)
Team and player photos
End of year banquet expenses
Senior night & team gift expenses
* Players will be provided with game uniforms which are the property of the school and must be returned at the end of the season. Socks, which are theirs to keep, are covered by each player’s assessment fee and will be provided with the uniforms.
We want to make sure that the fees above do not create a barrier for any player who is accepted to join the team, so we engage in fundraising to help offset the cost. Currently, the Boosters supports offsetting assessment fees for each dollar raised. For example, if you find a business that agrees to be a $500 sponsor, the Boosters would pay $250 towards offsetting your fee. Note that sponsorships may also be personal in nature. Here's how you can help support the team:
Make copies of the sponsorship sign up form and ask local businesses to support the team (they can also sign up online at the "Sponsors" link above)!
Watch for more opportunities to help raise funds for the team with our upcoming Lucky Goat coffee sale and other fundraisers!
Parents should be supportive of players, and not critical.
Parents should refrain from criticizing players or coaches in public.
Parents may not approach a coach immediately before or after a game or practice to discuss their child’s progress or performance. Coaches will schedule a meeting, if such a meeting is warranted.
Parents should conduct themselves in a manner reflective of the character of the program during games, regardless of the actions of opposing parents or players.
Parents are expected to sign up for volunteer shifts to the benefit of their child and the program.
The soccer program relies heavily on volunteers! The only paid positions in the soccer program are the coaching staff, which is funded separately by the Leon County School District. All parents are expected to volunteer during the season. We use Team Snap to coordinate volunteer opportunities and each family is asked to sign up at least twice. Everyone’s help is greatly appreciated!
Our volunteer activities include:
Assistance with the fundraisers
Ticket sales
Concession sales
"Stocking the stands" with specific items sold at concessions
Help with events like Senior Night and our end of year Banquet!
A player’s primary responsibility is to be a student. A player must maintain a 2.0 minimum GPA to participate in any sport at Leon High School.
Players must remain in good moral standing. Alcohol and drug use are prohibited.
Players must treat others with respect at all times. This includes teammates, game officials, opponents, and coaches.
Players are expected to attend practices and games. Unexcused absences may result in disciplinary actions or removal from the program.
Players must arrive, dressed and ready to participate, 60 minutes prior to game kickoff.
To try out or participate in any sport on the Leon High School campus, players must complete an Athletic Clearance Form, which is available from the Florida High School Athletic Association. The form is available for the 2025-26 season and is best completed online (https://athleticclearance.fhsaahome.org/). If you previously opened an account last year, you will be able to sign in again with the same login information.
Note that clearance requires submittal of a physical/health exam and players must also watch several videos to learn about concussions, heat illness, and other important health information. Remember to set aside some time to fully complete the clearance!
