AI: what can't it do?
AI: Artificial Intelligence. What is it? Well, it's a computer-based simulator application that allows us (humans) to receive information through a machine. It simulates human thought and decisions, can generate ideas and images as well as offer us inspiration and support in almost any activity we can think of.
AI offers great possibilities in creating and learning. Through various applications, we are not able to get quick assistance with idea generations, write ups, examples, and imagery.
When used appropriately and thoughtfully, we are able to support our own learning and teaching through means of differentiation, translating, and creating new and exciting materials.

All about the LA fires
By Wesley Martine:z: Grade 8
If you didn’t already know, Los Angeles, which is a city full of celebrities, was under a huge wildfire warning. Los Angeles is known for sunny weather, soft beaches, and housing many celebrities including Leonardo DiCaprio, Adele, Taylor Swift, Jeff Bazos, Lionel Richie and so many more. Los Angeles has been under a drought warning for a very long time. When January began, the fires began to erupt, causing big orange glows in the mountains that surround LA. Thankfully before February, all the fires, even the most deadly ones were all contained. These fires may have caused a lot of damage to the mountains and houses, but they have certainly built strong bonds with many neighbors and residents. People who have never spoken to each other are helping each other gain their strength. Strangers to many residents are welcoming families into their homes so they can all have a place to sleep. Many celebrities also lost their homes in the fires like Paris Hilton, Cary Elwes, Bella Hadid, Britney Spears and so many more celebrities. The biggest honor the firefighters have received was during the Grammys, they all presented the award for album of the year to Beyonce. The LA fires will go down in history as a California disaster, but at the same time strong everlasting friendships were built.
Why Trump's Banning Pennies
What do you think?
By Jonah Choe: Grade 5
Trump’s banning the penny, why you ask? Well today, you’ll learn the pros and cons of making the pennies. Whether you’re with it or against or for it, let’s see why the U.S. Mint is slowly starting to ban pennies.
PROS
The U.S. Mint would be able to save about 90 million dollars a year because making a penny costs 3.7 cents
Saves materials like copper and zinc
Taxpayers would save hundreds of millions of dollars
You’ll save about twelve minutes of your life not worrying about counting pennies.
You’ll save space in your wallet
CONS
Prices will most likely be rounded up
If prices are rounded up, the poor, who make smaller purchases, will be affected the most
If the penny is gone then the nickel, which takes 11 cents to make, would be heavily relied on
Every purchase you make in the future (if pennies are banned) will most likely be one cent higher than it originally was which adds up to your yearly purchases.
The penny has been around forever
What do you think? Should pennies be banned?n Answer in the link below!
Olympic Breakdancer Ami Yuasa
By Jonah Choe: Grade 5
Ever heard of Olympic break dancing? Well this article is about the break dancing sensation: Ami Yuasa. If you watched the Olympic women breakdancing, you know her, and how she won a gold medal, but do you know how she got there? Let’s find out.
In 2008, in Saitama, Japan, our dancer was born. When Ami was just six, her older sister, Ayu, introduced her to what we call hip-hop culture. Soon she fell in love with breaking. Under this influence, Ami started to get really good and her coach took a liking with her. It was not long before she started hitting up the competition. Ami started hitting up the big ones and she enjoyed it. Some b-boys started to notice the young b-girl and became her mentors. These mentors included: Katsu-One, the b-boy that got breaking all together in the Olympics, Taisuke, the breaker that represented Japan in the Red Bull BC One World Final more than any other breaker from Japan, and Wata, a sensational breaker. Later, when she was 20, she won the Red Bull Competition like her teachers wanted her to. 5 years later Ami was in the Olympics breaking harder than she ever had in her life. These were the key factors that allowed her to win the gold medal. Overall, she is a force not to be reckoned with.
Central Park Zoo
By Wesley Martinez: Grade 8
The Central Park Zoo, located in Central Park which is in Manhattan New York is a zoo that is run by WCS (wildlife conservation society). It is in the iconic Central park of Manhattan which is known for its beautiful landscape, iconic attractions ( the central park zoo being one of them), and its location in New York City. The Central Park zoo has many animals to look at from unshy red panda’s to acrobatic sea lions. The part that really gets me excited are the sea lions. Even when the sea lion show isn’t running, They are still feeling ready for the spotlight and always jump out of the water and hold onto the edge of the pool to say hi. Then when the show starts it’s like a circus at the zoo when they’re flipping and diving and eating while jumping. It's quite a show. The zoo animals are very welcoming, especially the red panda’s. Red panda’s are known for sleeping all day but yet they managed to give me a warm welcome when I visited with the environmental club. It’s not just the animals the staff at the zoo are very open minded and kind. When I went to the cafe at the zoo to buy mini melts, the customer service woman was so nice she guided me through all the steps of their system. It’s not just the staff and the animals at the zoo either that make it amazing. It’s the nice scenery at the zoo with the autumn background that makes you so relaxed and I love the fact that we’re supporting wildlife everytime we visit a WCS spot. I highly recommend this zoo. Get a membership to WCS or get a ticket which can be around 19.95 for adults.

Volleyball Team: No 5th or 6th grader make the team
By Jonah Choe: Grade 5
When the first day of tryouts came, everybody was a bit nervous. (I know because my sister tried out). They did their very best and gave it all they got. Ms. Babiak looked around, in search of control, skill, strength, and determination. One thing that I learned from my sister is that a lot of the people who got picked were in the friend groups of the actual good players. It was no surprise that no 5th graders got picked, not because they were bad, just because 7th and 8th graders were more of the go-to I feel. 6th grade was more of a shock though because I was expecting at least one or two 6th graders to make the team. Some kids practiced their hearts out. When the first cuts came out no 5th graders stayed in the gym. But when the second cut came, 6th graders also went home.
Although no 5th or 6th grader made the team, it was a great experience for each grade level and doing those tryouts, experiencing failure, helps them build up for future teams to come.
