At LEO Academy Trust we aim to provide teachers, who are new to the world of teaching, with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to progress successfully through the early stages of their teaching careers. We value the importance of collaboration and support and believe that developing and supporting Early Career Teachers (ECTs) in their first years of teaching is of the utmost importance.
We work in partnership with Harris City Academy Crystal Palace Teaching School Hub to facilitate the delivery of the UCL Full Induction Programme. This programme includes reflection and learning conference, cluster based training, structured mentor meetings and guided self-directed learning opportunities.

In addition to this, at LEO Academy Trust we also offer half termly subject specific training sessions delivered by senior leaders from within the Trust and our colleagues at the Sutton Education Trust. Our programme values the importance of group work and the sharing of ideas and practices and as such there are ample opportunities provided for ECTs to collaborate and to learn alongside one another. All sessions are highly interactive and are packed full of lots of practical teaching and learning strategies for ECTs to take away and use in their own classrooms.
'The programme has been supportive and caring. It has been carefully thought out to ensure that a variety of different aspects of teaching are covered. It has led me to feel confident in my teaching and has given me a tool kit of ideas to try whilst teaching.'
Year 5 ECT
'The ECT training programme has been an invaluable experience which has provided me with the confidence, skills and knowledge to make a successful start in my teaching career. The training sessions were fantastic, drawing upon the expertise of the experienced professionals within the trust and always providing lots of key strategies to take away and implement in my classroom.'
Nursery ECT
'The LEO ECT programme supports Early Career Teachers in their first year. There are opportunities to observe, focus on specific areas and team teach in the classroom. I have found the ECTs confidence grows over the induction and they make connections with other EQTs across the Trust and beyond.'
Miss L Thorndycraft, Principal
'An excellent programme to support teachers in their first year! Opportunities to learn from excellent practitioners as well as from each other'.
