Chromebooks are a new type of computer designed to help you get things done faster and more easily. They run ChromeOS, an operating system that has cloud storage, the best of Google Suite built in, and multiple layers of security. They run more like a phone than a computer in the sense that you can't install software; only apps and extensions.
It has an incredibly fast start-up time – it takes less than 8 seconds to boot up.
Long battery life – between 8-10 hours and only takes approximately 45 minutes to charge fully.
All work is saved to the cloud so don’t have to worry about students losing their work! Don’t believe them if they say they did.
You can work offline on the device and when you get online it automatically syncs all the information.
Work seamlessly with Google Apps for Education or GSuite.
Watch this very short video that will show you how to access apps, pin apps to the 'shelf' and how to access settings.
Does Microsoft Office work on Chromebooks?
On all Chromebooks, you can open, edit, download and convert many Microsoft Office files. Please visit the Google tools page for more information on how to do this!
How do managed Chromebooks work?
All devices owned by the school will have an enterprise enrolment, meaning that they are managed by the school or IT provider. Staff and children will have different access permissions, meaning that there could be limits on what is put on the device. Any apps or extensions can not be pushed out to children without a Data Protection Impact Assessment in order to comply with GDPR compliance. If you would like an app/ extension installed, please contact your school's Compliance Officer. For more information on this, please look at the schools' online safety policy.
