What a wonderfully festive and busy couple of weeks it has been in Reception! We kicked off the Christmas period by diving into the fantastic story of Stick Man. We used the story to help us practice our developing literacy skills, tackling some CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words that 'fell out' of the narrative. The children worked incredibly hard to stretch the words and then record the sounds they could hear, strengthening their segmenting and blending skills. In Maths, our focus was on ordering numbers 1 to 10 correctly, a crucial skill for understanding number sequence. Last week was also special as we really enjoyed watching the amazing Christmas show put on by our Year 1 and 2 friends!
This week brought the highlight of the term: our very own performance of The Jolly Christmas Postman! We were so proud of the children, who sang their hearts out and looked absolutely wonderful in their costumes for their grown-ups. We have also been immersing ourselves in a variety of Christmas stories, using them to discuss the different ways people around the world celebrate the festive season. Our Maths learning has continued to challenge us; we have been working on finding the missing number on a number line and developing our mathematical vocabulary by describing our reasoning using sentences like, "____ is 1 more than ____" or "____ is 1 less than ____." It has been a joyful and productive end to the term!
