STAFF UPDATES

Staffing Changes

We are very pleased that staffing is extremely stable for next year. However, we do have to say a sad farewell to two members of our family.

Sadly we have to say goodbye to Mrs Cano, who has worked at Cheam Fields for many years, has been an integral part of our teaching team as well as leading Computing & Digital Skills across the school. She has worked hard over the years to introduce Seesaw in EYFS and Year 1 and has led the Digital Leaders alongside Mr Clements for a number of years. Mrs Cano will be very much missed. We thank her for her dedication and hard work and wish her all the best for the future!

We also have to say farewell to Mr Honeysett, one of our Sports Coaches, who is also leaving us. He will be working at one of the other LEO Trust Academies . He has been an important part of the PE team for the last two years and we will miss his sense of humour and ability to make us all laugh. Thank you Mr Honeysett and good luck next year!

CHANGES TO SCHOOL HOURS - FROM SEPT 23

SCHOOL HOURS FROM SEPTEMBER 2023 (Year 1-6 Only):

From September 2023, Department for Education guidance is changing to say that children from Year 1 upwards must be in school for 32.5 hours per week.

In order to ensure we meet these requirements, school will continue to be open for Year 1-6 children from 8:30am but registers will close at 8:45am. In order to ensure that children are in their classrooms by this time, the gate will be closed at 8:40am.

The end of the school day will change slightly for some year groups. Year 1-4 will now finish at 3:15pm and Year 5 & 6 will finish at 3:20pm.

These changes are essential to ensure that we are meeting these requirements.

If you have any questions about next year, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Leadership Team.  We look forward to continuing to work with you and your child/children next academic year.

MENTALLY HEALTHY SCHOOLS

Dealing with change and transitions toolkit Primary

The end of an academic year brings a range of emotions. It is a time for reflection and celebrating achievements, as well as excitement with the summer holidays on the horizon. However, it is also a time of change and upheaval which can feel difficult and cause anxious feelings. Some children will have come to the end of their time at primary school and will be getting ready to leave, and the others will be preparing to move on to a new school year next term. Everyone in school will also be preparing for the shift from the routine of the school day, to no formal education structure across the summer break. In this toolkit, we’ve collected resources to help primary pupils deal with change and prepare for the summer break. We’ve also included resources for those pupils who will be leaving your school, to help them feel more settled and prepared. We’ve also worked with education staff mental health charity Education Support on some guidance for staff, to help you look after your mental wellbeing over the holidays.

SUMMER EXTRA CURRICULAR CLUBS

Please check out the Extra Curricular Clubs page here for lots of activities for children in the summer holidays.

WARMER WEATHER

As the hot weather continues in Sutton this week we would kindly ask you all to ensure your children have sun cream applied and hats and water bottles in school. Please see some useful information on signs of heat exhaustion. Heat can be dangerous for everyone, especially older people, young children and people with long term conditions. Find out more here

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

At Cheam Fields Primary Academy we recognise that good attendance gives our children the best possible opportunity for learning and reaching their full potential. Children need to attend school regularly if they are to take full advantage of the education opportunities available to them as well as their relationships with friendship groups. Giving your child the best start in life is every parent or carer’s wish. The opportunity to learn and make progress is essential to improve life chances. Good attendance is key to securing this.

Illness - If your child is going to be off school due to illness, please complete our Absence form here  by 8:30a.m on each day of Absence giving the reasons for any absence, this is an important safeguarding issue for the school.

Appointments - If your child has to have an appointment during school time please fill in the appointments form here. If your child will be in school over the lunch period please ensure you have filled in if they will be school dinners or packed lunch. A copy of any evidence for appointments can be emailed or brought into the office.

Exceptional Absence - Taking holidays in term time affects children’s schooling as much as any other absence and the school expects parents to help us by not taking children away in school time. There is no automatic entitlement in law to time off in term time to go on holiday.  The Governing Body does not sanction absence during term time. Any authorisation given by the Principal will be at her discretion and only in exceptional circumstances.

Please fill in the request for exceptional absence here.

SUMMER READING CLUB

We’re encouraging children (4-11 years old) to read six books over summer. Parents/Carers can sign their children up to the challenge and pick up a Summer Reading Club passport, filled with suggested children's books to read over the summer holidays. In celebration of Sutton STEAMs Ahead, our recommended reads are all on the theme of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). Please click here for more information.

SCHOOLS MOBILE APP - PROTECTING YOUR CHILD ONLINE

We have been made aware of a new Schools Mobile App.  The app is designed to protect children from accessing inappropriate material.  It offers control over games, apps, websites and does not add incremental data usage.  Meaning it won't drain any applicable data plan.  The app is also capable of auto-setting YouTube on restricted mode, enforcing safe search and blocking adult, gambling and piracy related content.
