Dear Parents and Carers,
What a fantastic couple of weeks we have had! Our classroom has been buzzing with energy and enthusiasm as the children have dived into some exciting new topics. We've been so impressed by their hard work and are thrilled to share what we've been learning.
In English, we have been writing acrostic poems about Victorian schools, inspired by the book 16 Steps to Being a Victorian. The children produced some brilliant poems, with some even managing to include rhymes! We are now looking at writing a diary entry with the purpose to recount, using the book The Sea Monsters by Terry Dear.
Our mathematical focus has shifted to division. In particular, we have been looking at how division works when a number cannot be shared equally into groups, exploring this concept concretely and pictorially. We have also looked at multiplying multiples of 10, which will lead us into the more formal column multiplication method.
In our Reading lessons, we have been focusing on developing retrieval and inference skills. The children have been thoroughly enjoying using the book Pugs of the Frozen North to practise these key comprehension techniques.
We have started our new unit on Electricity. In particular, we have focused on the difference between batteries and mains power. We have also begun looking at how to construct simple circuits.
In History, we have been looking at what sources tell us about how children's lives have changed over time. We have focused in particular on how playtime has changed and the children have been working hard to read like historians.
In RE, we have been studying Humanism and how we can live a good and happy life. The children created a Diamond 9 (a prioritising activity), evaluated their ideas as groups, and displayed good teamwork skills.
Thank you for your continued support. Have a wonderful half term.
