Principal's Message
It was wonderful to invite our new year 6 students into the academy on Thursday the 4th July for their Transition Day. They had a fantastic day exploring the site, attending lessons, watching Mary Poppins and learning what it is like to be a LEIGH Learner. The transition day also afforded us the opportunity to demonstrate to our current year groups how their split lunches will be operated next year. Year 8 had their lunch with the year 9 cohort and the year 7 students were able to meet their new peers ready for september. Our student ambassadors who took the year 6 students on tours and stayed with them for the day were an absolute credit to the school and we were incredibly proud of how well they represented our vision and values here at LAR.
I am pleased to share that with the growing community we have been approved funding to provide an additional outside enclosed dining area, which will be built over the summer period. This means that when we have 3 years groups on lunch at a time there will be additional space for all students to still sit and eat and socialise as it is a an all year round weather proof outside dining hall. We cannot wait to unveil this to students in September!
With only two weeks of the academic year left please continue to support your child to meet our expectations in terms of equipment, uniform and completion of homework. Lastly if you need to order any new uniform ready for September please ensure you do this before the end of the month - this includes new ties where your child may have drawn stripes or pulled threads to create stripes.
As always, thank you for your ongoing support,
Mrs Millward

Disabled Bays
We have a number of students who need to use the disabled bays due to physical disabilities. Please can we ensure we are not parking in these at the start and end of the day without reason as unfortunately there have been times these families have been unable to park next to the entrance due to inconsiderate parking. Thank you
Mary Poppins Jr Show
Mary Poppins Jr was a huge success with 2 evening performances to sell out audience, a matinee to our local primary schools and a showcase to year 6 transition pupils.
Both the pupils both performing backstage did themselves proud with a ‘Practically Perfect’ production. On of out Trustees Michael Costello came to watch the show with Miss Millward and was 'blown way' by the calibre of our students performances. A huge thank you to all the staff who were involved in the set design, makeup, rehearsals, feeding the cast , choreographing the dances and supporting back stage. In particular a massive thanks to Mr Clark who has given up a significant amount of his own time to make the show a success.
Thank you to all staff and family who attended the event. We can’t wait to welcome you to our Christmas production of ‘A Night At The Arts’.
Conduct Cards
Please ensure you are supporting your student/s to have their Conduct card and that if you have accidentally washed / damaged it to please email the college mailbox so we can re-issue a new one.
Contacting the Academy
We would like to remind all parents that the best way to contact the academy and have your query resolved swiftly is to email the college or inclusion mailbox directly for your child. The main office is very busy and there can sometimes be unavoidable delays passing messages to the college, or relevant team, when a call has been taken by reception, instead of college teams. From September we will have direct phone lines for each college, but in the meantime please email all queries to the following addresses so we can sure to respond well within our 48 hour window.

Gold Artsmark Award
We are delighted to announce that we have received a prestigious Gold Artsmark Award! Artsmark is the creative quality standard for schools, accredited by Arts Council England: it celebrates schools that champion the arts and strive for excellence in their provision. To achieve the award, we have developed our arts and cultural provision to embed a broad and ambitious curriculum. We have cross-curricular arts projects, co-curricular arts clubs and work with local arts organisations e.g. Electric Medway and Icon Theatre. Miss Swanston and Mr. Clark would like to thank and congratulate all students, parents, and staff who have supported us and attended our clubs, trips, shows and arts workshops!
Parent Governor
We would like to inform you of an exciting opportunity for a parent to become more involved in the Academy’s journey as we continue to grow into a centre of excellence and beacon school within our community. We are looking to recruit a Parent Governor who would be committed to giving up their time to take a strategic role in shaping the Academy as a whole. To apply please see attached the google form that requires filling out.
Sporting Fixtures
A belter of a smash match vs Rochester Math School. The hosts were reduced to just 59-5 off their 10 overs after some excellent LAR bowling and fielding. Oliver P and Noah G opened well followed by Oliver K hit a few quick runs. However a quick collapse meant we required 6 runs off 4 balls to win. Our immense year 7s, James H, Harry S and Sam P stepped up to bring the team home. A fantastic win against another trust school.
A fantastic day at Medway District Athletics 2024. We are so proud of every student that took part in a very busy day. Some highlights include Dan O becoming a district record holder and the fastest boy in year 7 in Medway. Praveen securing gold in his javelin event, Alex M winning gold in the year 9 1500m as well as medals in the long jump for Charlie H. The relay teams also worked very hard to achieve some well deserved medals. Well done all.
A great experience for the year 7 cricket team who are learning all the time. SJWMS scoring 105 off their 15 overs was just too much as we fell short by 25 runs. We must continue to play and learn. If you are interested in cricket please let Mr Gearey know as we are surrounded by so many fantastic clubs that can develop your game significantly. Let’s get playing cricket!
