Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to take a moment to reflect on all the incredible events that have taken place within Sancho college this year and highlight some outstanding achievements from our students.
Sancho has had a very successful year. Since September, our students have amassed 40,182 merits. This smashed last year's record total of 39,291. It also means that Sancho college has the most merits in the entire school!
Since the start of module 5, Sancho have been trialling a reward system called “Sancho Stars!” where the college team has tracked those students who have received the most merits. The stars are split into gold, silver and bronze. In order to achieve a bronze medal, the students need to achieve 200+ merits; for silver, they need to achieve 250; and for gold, 300.
At the end of the module, each set of stars is entered into a raffle for an exciting prize. At the time of writing this article, the top three students in Sancho are Linara (with 370), Henry (with 376) and in top place, Rafferty (with 391). These students really represent the best of Leigh Academy Blackheath and demonstrate all of the best qualities of a LAB student. They embody our values every day!
Other students who do the same have been working just as hard at home as they do in school.
This module for instance, Year 8 students have studied the heart in Science and enjoyed learning all about this fascinating organ. However, here at LAB, that is not where the learning ends!
Linara in 8E has spent weeks creating this beautiful response to the topic: a fascinating image of the heart created using acrylic paints. Her passion and ability in both subjects is clear for everyone to see.
Linara is one of the top merit earners in Sancho and Year 8, showing a fantastic example of the best that Year 8, Sancho and the LAB community have to offer!
Meanwhile, Lily-Fleur, Sriya and Annabelle have worked together to produce a leaflet for year 6 students who will be joining the LAB community in September.
The leaflet was deemed by Miss Joy to be the best entry in the entire school and the girls were rewarded with a prize. You can see leaflet here; it contains an outline of the school day, helpful tips on prioritising one’s wellbeing and a few fun activities relating to the LAB values. The leaflet will be very useful when Sancho welcome our newest cohort of students in September!
And finally, of course, we have recently celebrated the end of another set of GCSEs. The year 11 students were a credit to themselves and the community with their conduct throughout the long and emotionally taxing exam season. Thankfully, they were able to relax and reflect on their time at the school on shirt signing day and prom. We hope to see as many of them as possible continuing with their education in LAB16.
I wish you a restful summer break and look forward to seeing you all in September.
Thank you for your continued support.
Mr Smith and the Sancho team.
