Mu Alpha Theta is a nationally recognized mathematical honor society that aims to grow enjoyment, and excellence in math. Mu Alpha Theta also provides students the opportunity to serve their community, compete at a national level, and connect with others interested in mathematics.
Each week, our practice consists of:
A 1-hour handout
4 individual round questions (which team members are allotted 10 minutes to complete)
2 team round questions (which team members are allotted 10 minutes to complete)
1 hour of reviewing the weekly test (for starters)
The team captain is in charge of teaching the handout and reviewing the weekly test with their team. Hence, they should have fully learned everything on both before their meeting. However, everyone should at least attempt to review their tests on their own before the meeting. The weekly tests are mandatory for starters, but only recommended for everyone else.
Each handout, made by the 2022-23 Dunbar math team officers (Jaansi Parsa, Isabel Liu, Advaith Menon, Andrew Chuang Saladin) and sponsor (Mr. Savage), comes with both video and text solutions which will help both the team captain learn the material and those who cannot attend meetings in-person.
Club Member: Attend meetings, or watch video support for meetings if you can't attend in person.
Overnight travel members (State/National Convention): At least one test per week.
Team starters are recommended to take and review at least one practice test per week, but anyone interested in making big personal improvements should take and review many more than that (3+).
