Not only does the Dunbar Math Team train for competitions, but we also give back to the community that has supported us! We understand the importance of improving mathematics education and fostering a love of problem solving, especially at the elementary and middle school levels. As part of this new initiative in partnership with Lee County School District, we provide math support for students across the district! In May 2023, we hosted the first annual 5th & 6th grade math competition with over 200 participants, and look forward to adding Elementary Math Days to this year's schedule as well!
Made by Dunbar students Jaansi Parsa and Jakob Musich, this middle-school targeted curriculum includes turnkey lesson plans for teachers interested in starting Math Clubs at their school with minimal effort. It includes question handouts, solution videos, written solution keys, and extension questions for homework. The curriculum can be found on the LCMC website.
GeniusLab! is a student-led STEM outreach event targeted towards fifth and sixth graders in Lee County. Through hands-on activities, interactive presentations, and group discussions, we aim to inspire a love for engineering, math, chemistry, biology, and computer science!
DHS math team hosts a math camp at Dunbar High School every summer for students looking to enrich their math skills and see what our math team is all about!
The Dunbar Math team hosted mock competitions in August and September for schools across the district interested in joining the Mu Alpha Theta competitive season. Each competition would have a practice individual and team round, and all of the students would work together to review the questions at the end.
Math team members are involved in the tutoring community at Dunbar High School, helping teach and review geometry, algebra II, precalculus, statistics, SAT/ACT math, and more!
