About the Dance Faculty

Nancy Burnham is a graduate of Cypress Lake High School Center for the Arts. During her high school years she attended North Carolina School of the Arts and Jacob’s Pillow Dance festival where she attended the Jazz Project on a full scholarship. She was awarded a full scholarship to attend the New World School of the Arts in Miami, Fl. to receive her BFA in dance performance.. In the summer of 2005 Ms. Burnham was awarded a teachers fellowship to the Bates Dance Festival in Maine. She was a board member of the Florida Dance Education Organization from 2004 to 2011 and started the National Honor Society for Dance Arts for the state of Florida in 2006. She was the Chairperson for the National Honor Society for Dance Arts for Florida from 2006 to 2011. Ms. Burnham attended the American Dance Festival on a teacher fellowship in 2014. Ms.Burnham received her Master of Fine Arts degree in Choreography from Jacksonville University in 2014. In the summer of 2015 she was awarded a certificate in Horton technique from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.
Sarah Thornburg is a graduate of Cypress Lake High School Center for the Arts as a dance major, class of 2001. She went on to Florida State University earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and a Bachelor of Science with an emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy. Ms. Thornburg has been teaching in the Lee County Schools District since 2006. She has taught a variety of grades and disciplines as well teaching at multiple schools before landing at CLHSCA. Ms. Thornburg teaches Ballet levels I-IV for dance majors as well as World Dance for non-dance majors.
