How do I access college computers for the first time?

You can login to the LRC computers using your college IT username and password. Your username is the ID number as displayed on your college ID card, your password will be your date of birth in the format DDMMYYYY, followed by an exclamation mark (!) and then the first three letters of your surname with a capital letter for the first letter.

E.g. Joanne Smith, born 22 March 2004

Password: 22032004!Smi

But, if your surname is three letters or less your first name will be used instead.

E.g. Ahmed Ali, born on 2 March 2004

Password: 02032004!Ahm

Accessing your LCC Google account for the first time

Every Leeds City College student is given a Google account. This account includes your college email, Google Drive and Google Classroom, as well as a host of other apps and add ons.

The username for your college Google account is slightly different to the one you access your IT account. To access Google, once you are logged on as above, your username is your ID@leedscitycollege.ac.uk. Your password remains exactly the same as above, date of birth in the format DDMMYYYY, followed by an exclamation mark (!) and then the first three letters of your surname with a capital letter for the first letter.

E.g. Joanne Smith, born 22 March 2004

Username: A123456@leedscitycollege.ac.uk

Password: 22032004!Smi

But, if your surname is three letters or less your first name will be used instead.

E.g. Ahmed Ali, born on 2 March 2004

Username: A123456@leedscitycollege.ac.uk

Password: 02032004!Ahm

How do I print, copy and scan?

The college has multifunctional devices which print, copy and scan. You can log in to these devices manually to retrieve your work, it is better to save time in the long run by registering your student card first. This will allow you to login by swiping your card in the future. Ask any member of LRC staff if you need any help.

Hint: If you ever have a new badge printed you will need to re-register on these machines.

Do I have to pay for printing, copying and scanning?

All students are given £5 credit for printing and photocopying each term.

Credits are deducted from your account every time you print or photocopy. One side of a black and white page costs approximately 1p whilst a colour page costs approximately 5p.

If you run out of credit you can buy more from the reception teams. Print balances are reset after Christmas and Easter, if you run out before these times buy only enough credit to print and copy what you need. Credit is not carried over to the next term, so any unspent credits are lost and your account is reset to £5.

How do I find books and journals in my LRC?

Search+ is the 'go to' tool you should use to find all physical resources available to you as a student of Learning Resources.

This video should explain how to find it. There are more hints and tips here

What if I can't find what I'm looking for through Search+?

Fear not, we have an account with The British Library!

If you can't find a specific publication, article or even general information on a subject through Search+, then come and see the LRC team at your site. Our team of librarians should be able to assist you in finding it through our British Library account.

In some circumstances, you may be required to pay for our document supply service through the British Library. Several factors determine whether this may be the case and the librarian helping you order what you need will discuss this with you before any orders are placed on your behalf.

Borrowing books

How do I borrow resources?

Your student ID card is also your LRC card. You must have it with you to borrow resources from your LRC.

FE students can borrow 6 items at a time.

HE students can borrow 10 items at a time.

Most resources can be borrowed for 2 weeks, and we also have some 1 week only resources available. Reference items cannot be taken out of the LRC.

how do i manage my lrc account?

If you are a Leeds City College student, in order to access your online account you will need to use these simple steps:

1. Click 'Log in to your account' in the top right corner of the screen

2. You will then be asked for a 'Login' and 'Password', this is your ID as shown on your badge and the same password you use to login in to your college email and computers.

How do I renew resources?

We run an automatic renewal system. Any two week loans borrowed are automatically renewed until the end of the term for you. Anything not returned by the end of the term will be placed into our invoicing process and you may be charged.

If someone else has reserved a resource that you have on loan, automatic renewals are stopped and you will be asked to bring the resource back. Anything not returned at this point will be placed into our invoicing process.

How do I reserve resources?

If you want a resource that is on loan to someone else, you can reserve it free of charge. Ask any member of LRC staff, either at the LRC counter or working in the space itself.

We are also happy to transfer books between LRCs if you want something that is available at another campus. Again, simply ask LRC staff and they will help you get the resources you need.

How do I return resources?

Please return your resources on or before the due date to any LRC counter at any campus. If you are unsure of the due date you can check this via your student email (all resources issued create an e-receipt emailed to you) or via your student online account.

If your LRC is closed then, at most campuses, you can leave resources in the book return box outside the library. These will be returned as soon as the LRC is open again. It is your responsibility to make sure that you return resources on time.

What are the LRC fines?

Fines are charged for any and all overdue resources not returned at the end of term or reserved by other users, as follows:

For FE students:

2 week loans 5p per day.

1 week loans 5p per day.

For HE students:

2 week loans 10p per day.

1 week loans 10p per day.

Fines are not charged at weekends or during holiday periods. The maximum fine for any overdue resource is £3.

If resources are lost or damaged whilst out on loan on your account, or if it is stolen, the full replacement cost will be charged.
