Grade 8 Recognition Ceremony Information 2025
Where: Judge Crandall Field on the LMS/GFS/JWL campus. LMS students will have arranged seating and families are asked to bring chairs, blankets, etc. and will be facing the students. Sun glare should not be a factor. If there are any special needs with wheelchairs, etc. please use the wooden walkway and ramps or contact me directly for solutions.
When: Thursday June 12th. 5:00 Start. Grade 8 students should arrive no later than 4:30pm in the LMS auditorium (as an initial gathering space). Students will line up and then proceed to the field at 4:52. Students will walk in front of the school toward the field in alphabetical order so that parents can take pictures.
Parking: Parking is available on the entire site- please use the JWL/GFS lots as well. The front bus lane will be blocked off to traffic as well as the parent pick up lane.
Dress: Students are asked to dress for the occasion. They will process to and from the bleachers on the grass so please plan for appropriate footwear.
Pictures: Students will have time after the ceremony for pictures with family. At the end of the ceremony, students will process back to the front of the school where you can meet them in the “bus lane” and sidewalk area on level pavement and after that time, students can head into the cafeteria for the LMS PTO Dance and Social which will have food, beverage and a dance for students.
Cell Phones: I initially stated that students would not be permitted to have cell phones for this dance/ social, but due to safety and communication purposes, they will be permitted. My goal with that was so students could enjoy their time and not be so “phone- centric”.
Student Seating and Receiving Awards: Students will be seated alphabetically. Students will stand and be recognized when they receive their promotion certificate and also if they receive additional awards. This decision was done to help streamline the program.
Signs and Cheering: It is encouraged to make signs and cheer for students during this program.
Pets/ Alcoholic Beverages/ Tobacco Use: Pets are not permitted on the field for this event. Tobacco and alcoholic beverages are not permitted.
Student Pick Up at 8:00pm: Dance ends at 7:50pm. Students will be able to be picked up promptly NO LATER than 8:00pm. We will have teachers outside directing traffic and will use the front bus lane and the front parking lot as the area to pick up and exit the school.

About Say Something ARS: The Say Something ARS program empowers students, teachers, and administrators to recognize and report signs of potential safety concerns—whether they occur at school, on social media, or in the community. This system provides a confidential way to share concerns and ensure timely intervention when needed.
How It Works:
Recognizing Warning Signs – Students and staff will be trained to identify concerning behaviors and potential threats.
Taking Immediate Action – The system provides students with the ability to report concerns anonymously through a website, mobile app, or hotline.
24/7 Access to Support – A Crisis Center is available at all times to receive and respond to reports.
Ongoing Awareness Efforts – Schools will incorporate the program into student discussions, awareness campaigns, and activities throughout the year.
Training & Accessibility: To ensure students and staff are well-equipped to use the system, all students and staff will receive training on how to recognize and report concerns appropriately. Additionally, a direct access bookmark to the Say Something ARS platform will be added to all school-issued devices, making it easier for students to use the system when needed.
Resources for Parents & Caregivers: We recognize that parents and caregivers play a crucial role in school safety efforts. To help you better understand how you can support this initiative, please review the “My Role as a Parent or Caregiver” program brochure. This resource provides information on how to talk to your child about recognizing warning signs, taking action, and encouraging them to use the Say Something ARS system responsibly.
Why This Matters: Students often have insight into situations that may not be immediately visible to adults. This program gives them a safe and anonymous way to share concerns and seek help when they see warning signs. It’s an important tool in fostering a supportive school environment where students look out for one another.
How to Learn More: If you have any questions about the Say Something ARS program, please feel free to reach out to your school principal or my office. Your partnership in promoting a safe and supportive school environment is invaluable, and we appreciate your engagement in this effort.
