The A, B, C's of Being an LMS Student
With one quarter left of the school year, the school community will be focusing on the core values of being a student at LMS. Students will be expected to focus on their:
A: Assignments (work is completed and turned in on time)
B: Behaviors (prepared for class, follows class rules)
C: Collaboration (works well with others, does not sabotage)
D: Diligence (on task, does not waste time)
E: Engagement (participated in class)
The goal is to motivate and support classroom engagement and participation in addition to the values of kindness and respect. Each Friday for the remaining part of the year, we will follow an activity schedule and have a 40 minute activity/ recess for students to participate in. Students that do not meet the expectations of being a student will be given that time to revisit their core educational needs with academic instruction and support.
LMS Administration will be meeting with students on Monday morning (April 20th) to review this process.
June 24th
8th Grade End of the Year Trip: Grade 8 students will be heading to Lake Compounce on Friday June 12th. Permission slips were distributed last week and should be turned in ASAP. Cost is $55. Date Change: Friday June 12th!
American Heroes Student Art Contest
To mark this year’s U.S. Semiquincentennial, the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) has committed $730,000 to sponsor the Freedom 250 American Heroes Student Art Contest. This national competition invites students in grades 3–12 to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary by creating artwork inspired by the 200+ historic Americans to be honored with statues in the National Garden of American Heroes.
Freedom 250 will award up to 168 first-place prizes to students at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels from each U.S. state and territory. Winners will receive a travel allowance to attend the Great American State Fair on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., with a parent or guardian this summer, where all winning artworks will be featured in an exhibition and honored in an awards ceremony.
