Dear Third Graders and Families,
Welcome to third grade! My name, as you probably know, is Ms. Nitzsche but you might not know how to pronounce it. An easy way to remember is that it rhymes with the word "peachy!" Hope that helps. Interestingly enough, I still remember my third grade teacher where I grew up in Beaverton, OR. Her name was Mrs. Hamm and she was super nice. I learned a lot from her and I hope to be that same kind of teacher.
This is my fifth year here at Valley View, though I have 16 years of teaching experience. I have taught many grade levels as a special education teacher and as a general education teacher. I believe that my background gives me a wonderful perspective on how to bring out the strengths of all my students. Getting to know each student is one of my favorite things about being a teacher. I can't wait to find out how we are all different and how we might share the same experiences too!
In the spirit of sharing experiences, I'd like to tell you just a little bit about myself and my family. I am a Mom to two great kids who are both getting more adult by the day! My daughter is 21 years old and she loves to cook and grow plants. She is attending Rutgers University for Agricultural Sciences. My son who is also at Rutgers, is persuing a career in the arts, specifically Media Photography. He is also really into playing his upright bass guitar and he loves to play jazz music. It's an exciting time for our family!
We also have quite a menagerie of rescue animals at our house. You may have heard about my dog, Lil' Beasty (Lil' Bee for short) who used to visit my classroom to hang out with the students! She needs to persue her Therapy Dog certification so she can continue to do so. I also have two cats, Benny and Stella, who are very friendly, but wouldn't enjoy a trip to school!
I can't help but wonder about all the amazing things that your families do together and have been up to this summer!? I hope that you will feel comfortable letting me know about you, now that you know a little about me!
Below you can find our supply list for the beginning of school. We will be having a great time learning and growing together! Thanks for reading! Feel free to email me at dnitzsche@lebtwpk8.org. I'd love to hear from you!
Sincerely,
Ms. Dana Nitzsche
