Coach Cliff has over 40 year's experience teaching and playing squash.
He is certified at the highest level by the WPSA (Pro 1 out of 5 levels), a US Squash Level 3 Coach, a US Squash Pro Affiliate, and a US Squash National Verifier. Cliff holds a B.A. in Economics from Tufts University and an M.S. in Sports Management, magna cum laude from Northeastern University.
Cliff is a Malaysian/American who grew up overseas in India, Singapore, and Malaysia where he learned the game from several of the region’s top coaches and players. Over the years, he has had the opportunity to play and train with many top 100 players and was the training/sparring partner for 5 years to former Malaysian National Champion, and former world #62, Razlan Hashim.
Over the past 40 years in the US, Cliff has been a Head Pro at several Boston area clubs, and was a Head College Squash Coach for 10 years at both Tufts University and at Wellesley College.
In addition to leading the Squash Programs at Winsor, Cliff and LearnSquash actively consult and volunteer with SquashBusters in Boston, where they also own and operate the LearnSquash Community Club. He continues to serve as Squash Director at the Maugus Club in Wellesley, a role he has held for the past 28 years. Throughout his career, Cliff has coached a wide range of players—from beginners to top nationally ranked juniors and adults—guiding many all the way to the international stage.
Cliff’s racket of choice is the Tecnifibre Slash 120 Control used on tour by Egyptian Pro and current world #1, Mostafa Asal. “This racket has fantastic control and ample power in a traditional closed throat design."
Szilvi is a certified Level 2 US Squash Coach, US Squash Pro Affiliate, and certified referee. Now entering her 23rd season as Head Coach at Winsor School and Head Pro of the Squash Center, she has built one of the strongest girls’ programs in the country. Since 2003, her teams have captured every Eastern Independent League title since 2010 and earned national finishes as high as 5th in Division 1.
As a player, Szilvi has represented Hungary at the European Individual Squash Championships, competed locally in the Massachusetts State League, and regularly plays for Team Boston ‘A’ in the Women’s Howe Cup. She is the current Massachusetts Women’s 40+ Champion, two-time State 30+ Champion, and has held the #1 U.S. national ranking in the 30+, 35+, 40+, and 45+ divisions.
