In school, we strongly believe in a nurturing approach for many pupils in response to their needs. The nurturing approach offers a range of opportunities for children and young people to engage with early nurturing experiences, giving them the social and emotional skills to do well at school and with peers, develop their resilience and their capacity to deal more confidently with the trials and tribulations of life, for life.
You can continue this at home by doing simple things that may seem obvious but make a difference: having meals together where possible; encouraging your children to spread their own butter on their toast or pouring their own juice. They could plan what they will be having for lunch and then help make their own sandwich. The conversations that come out from these daily tasks, as well as actually completing the tasks, helps development in so many areas.
You will also find below activities for independent learning as children with Autism and learning difficulties should still be given the opportunity to work on their own. These activities cover different areas of the curriculum.
The SEND and Nurture Team will continue to share activities that you and your child may find enjoyable AND achievable.
