The following "student" and "parent/guardian" code of conducts can be found in the Athletic Package that will be distributed to team members once the teams have been finalized. Both forms must be signed and submitted to the athletic directors before competition.
Cedar Secondary Athletics STUDENT Code of Conduct
The actions of a student-athlete are a reflection of themselves, their team, their school, and their community. A student’s involvement in school sports provides opportunities and experiences that are important to the development of a well-rounded student. However, student-athletes must remember that their participation in school sports is a privilege, not a right.
“Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.” John Wooden
Being a student-athlete at Cedar Community Secondary is an honour and a privilege. Athletes are leaders in our school and community and are expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct — on the field, in the classroom, and online. This code outlines the expectations for student-athletes and supports the values of respect, responsibility, and integrity.
1. Respect & Sportsmanship
Student-athletes shall:
Treat everyone with fairness, dignity, and respect.
Show respect to teammates, coaches, opponents, referees, event organizers, and spectators at all times.
Accept the decisions of officials without argument or confrontation.
Be generous and humble in victory, and show grace and composure in defeat.
Play by the rules and uphold the spirit of the game at all times.
Exercise self-control in both action and language.
Refrain from using foul, profane, or abusive language on and off the field.
Avoid physical aggression outside the rules of play.
Avoid unnecessary confrontation or negative engagement with spectators or opponents.
2. Citizenship & Commitment
Student-athletes shall:
Be positive role models in the classroom, in the school, and in the community.
Attend all classes, practices, games, and team events on time and fully prepared.
Maintain a minimum “satisfactory” work habit rating in all classes.
Demonstrate respectful behavior toward staff and peers, both on and off the field.
Understand that repeated unexcused absences, poor work habits, or inappropriate conduct may result in suspension or removal from the team.
Fulfill a community involvement requirement by volunteering within the school. Giving back to the school community is a mandatory part of athletic participation.
3. Drugs, Alcohol, Tobacco & Vaping
The use, possession, or promotion of drugs, alcohol, vaping devices, or tobacco products is strictly prohibited at any time while representing Cedar Community Secondary as an athlete — including practices, games, travel, and team events.
Any violation of this policy will lead to disciplinary action, which may include suspension or removal from the team, and may involve school administration.
Athletes are encouraged to seek help if they are struggling with substance use. Support is available through school counselors and trusted adults.
4. Social Media & Online Conduct
As a student-athlete, your online presence reflects on your team, your school, and yourself. You are expected to:
Use social media in a respectful, responsible, and positive manner.
Avoid posting content that is offensive, harmful, discriminatory, or threatening.
Never post negative comments or images targeting teammates, coaches, officials, or opponents.
Understand that screenshots and shared content can live forever — if it’s not appropriate to say or do in person, it’s not appropriate online.
Remember that your conduct online can impact your eligibility and team status.
By signing below, the student-athlete and their parent/guardian agree to follow the Cedar Community Secondary Athlete Code of Conduct and understand the consequences for not meeting these expectations.
