Providing parents with an ally in their child's education helps to develop trust in the school system. When schools lean on community contributors for support, the entire community benefits. Encouraging interaction among school, families and community members, produces a higher level of creativity among all involved. Providing constant support for families yields massive benefits in the classroom and establishing a large community support network for education can create more stability and prosperity for all. A customized approach for student-centered education plans empowers parents to play a role in their child's education and allows them to feel more comfortable about sharing life's demands and struggles.
Synopsis:
Making parents feel more socially comfortable at school will allow them to speak up for their child's needs. Family involvement allows for more voice in school initiatives and decision-making, which consequently builds confidence in the school and increases lines of communication.
Synopsis:
Educators must "create an environment where families feel embraced by a school's culture, not just invited to the events". Raising students is a shared responsibility of the school, community and family. Through significant family involvement, students yield many educational benefits including: greater student achievement, higher attendance, increased grad rates, lower substance use and more vulnerable students supported at a higher level. Communication is absolutely the most important factor in student success and development of a parent advisory council (PAC) allows for parent voice. Partnering with local businesses and community contributors, to meet family needs, further supports the community approach to education and providing training, info sessions for families gives them confidence that they can make a difference in their child's future.
Synopsis:
Changes in early adolescence directly effect academics performance. Although parental involvement in school is heavily encouraged, it is the type of involvement that will dictate the level of effectiveness in student achievement. However, help with homework was not positively effected. Involvement that reflected academic socialization had the strongest positive association with achievement.
Synopsis:
Research has proven that children who participate in dinner time conversation boost their vocabulary than reading aloud to them. In other studies, it was found that teens who eat dinner at the table with their families at least twice per week demonstrate improved academic performance. Children who consistently eat dinner at the table display healthier eating habits and report a higher level of energy. Family meals help reduce poor behaviour in teens, while also promoting good behaviour as well. Several other benefits occur as a result of families eating together.
Synopsis:
Skills can be cultivated through effort. The true belief that you can make a difference in the outcome of your life is a significant advantage in the process. People with a growth mindset thrive on challenges and find happiness in the success of trying something new. Mental, emotional, and physical benefits emerge as the transition to a growth mindset takes place. The way that you live your life is profoundly effected by the way that you view yourself. The fixed mindset: “I can’t do it”. The growth mindset: “I can’t do it yet”.
