Our Inquiry Question:
Considering the influence an involved and engaged parent/guardian can have on the success rate of a student, how can we create a strong sense of belonging for our families?
This inquiry question is the inspiration for a school-wide initiative to increase the rate and style that we communicate to the families of our students. Our goal is to create meaningful opportunities to engage with the families and form authentic relationships. The desired outcome is to increase personal student success on all levels.
We are introducing this initiative in two phases: Phase one (2019/2020) is a focus on parental/guardian involvement and phase two (2020/2021) is parental/guardian engagement. Our hope is that once we have gone through each phase, our families will have a true sense of belonging with our staff and our school.
The inspiration that is guiding us:
"Teachers who focus on parent involvement and engagement often see a profound change in their classrooms. The more parents involved in their children’s education, the better their entire class’s motivation, behavior, and grades become.
Encouraging parent engagement is more than common courtesy. It’s one of the best ways to create a positive learning environment for every student."
The following video titled, Supporting Families to Boost Students’ Success, produced by Edutopia, is an amazing example of the direction we hope to go with this school-wide initiative.
