Miss K. Martins

Learning Support Services Teacher

My name is Kelly Martins. I am a Learning Support Services teacher at John MacLure. I moved to Abbotsford from Toronto, Ontario in October of 2017. I started working at John MacLure in November of 2017 and immediately felt welcomed by the school team. I work with specific teachers and their classes, either working with small groups around the school or supporting students in the classroom. Although most of us are new to virtual education, we want to do our best to support your child's learning in any way we can. I will be in continuous communication with your child's classroom teacher and will ask how to best communicate with families at this time. Feel free to email me at any time if your child needs support. I am also willing to video chat with your child if they are in need of extra support.

Mrs. K. Kocherkewych

Youth Care Worker

Hi there, my name is Kristi Kocherkewych, or as most students and staff call me, "Mrs. K", and I am the Youth Care Worker at John Maclure. I have been at Maclure for 3 years now, and I LOVE working here and interacting with our students and staff. I am also a mom to two boys (ages 10 & 7), so they keep me busy!
My role as a YCW is to support children's social and emotional learning needs (SEL), which encompasses a lot of areas such as anxiety, worry, managing emotions & finding coping strategies, struggling with conflicts with friends or just how to socially interact with others. My daily schedule is always different as my main focus is our students and where they are at in their needs in that moment, and we work from there. With education going virtual right now, my role supporting our students will look a bit different, but won't change as my main focus is still making sure our students' SEL needs are being met. I will be posting helpful & fun videos for our school families that I will link on this site. During this time at home, I will still be in communication with your child's teacher so if any needs arise, I can be there to support you & your child. Please feel free to email me at any time, and I am available to call or set up video chats as well. We will get through this as we have each other. I miss your kids and all their funny jokes they would share with me!

Mr. C. Julian

Indigenous Support Worker

My name is Carlos Julian and I am the Indigenous Support Worker at John Maclure. I am from Máthexwi (Matsqui) First Nation.

I have been lucky to be a part of Maclure for over a year now. At the school I provide in-class support and check-ins, social/emotional support, and cultural support. I teach Indigenous knowledge and culture through classroom lessons, arts and activities, drumming, booking presenters and speakers, and field trips. My ultimate goal is to increase the Indigenous students' sense of belonging and cultural identity, which I think is the most important aspect of my job.

I am in regular contact with all Indigenous students, and I'd like to stay in touch with them during these times. You can always email me at any time, and I'm also available for phone calls and video chats.

Mrs. M. Ahrend

English Language Learning Teacher

I have always enjoyed languages and have been a language learner in French, which has helped me to understand the joys and challenges of learning a new language. This led to my passion for teaching English Language Learners and I currently support these students in grades 3-5 at John Maclure Community School.

In my spare time, I enjoy travelling, hiking and spending time with my husband Richard, my daughter Janae and my son Derek.
