Equine Learning Academy

Equine Learning is a learner established educational, experiential program facilitated within a group format and focuses on handling the horses from the ground rather than a mounted session. It is a hands-on course, which promotes personal development and group growth. Participants will participate in objectively driven fun exercises/activities with the horses and find themselves learning valuable life skills in a fun, safe and exciting atmosphere.

RSS’s Equine Learning program highlights a curriculum of 12 weeks of contact with the horses and includes 15 + exercises of facilitating life skills through positively augmented interaction with horses. The remainder of the course is classroom and community based.

Students will learn about horses, horse care, management, basic horse handling skills and then with this knowledge use this to help develop their own confidence, life and employment skills. The goal of this course is to provide a safe, welcoming, interactive and growth oriented course to help students grow and expand their horizons and personal awareness.

Safety for the students is always at the forefront of planning. Before students arrive at the farm, they will learn some basic terminology, knowledge, equipment, practice “leading”, haltering and walking with the horses before they are working on the personal skill development.

Additionally, students will be required to wear gloves, safe footwear (closed toe, solid shoe) and a ASTM approved helmet provided by Huckleberry Hollow Horse Co.

Students interested in taking this course must fill out an
