Step 1: Investigate which pathway you believe would be the most interesting for you to put this intense research into.
Step 2: Find a mentor that you are able to complete a Job Shadow, Career Interview OR an Indigenous Elder Experience with OR use the KSS Job Shadow Booklet to find an area of interest that we could help you book a Job Shadow with.
Step 3: Book your Job Shadow with your Mentor & visit the KSS Career Center, in order top ensure that you have all of the correct paperwork to complete this.
Step 4: Complete all of the paperwork that you will receive from the KSS Career Counselling Center. You will need to hand this in at the Career Center when you are done.
The important role of mentors
In Grades 10-12, students refine their career-life development goals for personal, educational, and work-related contexts through experiential learning, cultivating community connections, gathering authentic evidence of learning, reflecting on their learning in school and out of school, and self-assessing their Core Competency development. Mentor(s) play a key role in this development process, and this role is often performed by the Career-Life Education and Connections teacher. The mentor’s role may include:
Step 5: When you submit your paperwork in the KSS Career Center, you will be given a Green Completion slip. Please take a picture of this immediately and add it to the final slide of your Capstone Presentation.

RE: Capstone Graduation Requirements
I just wanted to help clarify a few items that we are working on for our students in Career Life. Our district (and our province) have been really stressing the importance of Career Life, Mentorship and a variety of student experiences in all areas of education. Our district and school goals are to provide as many experiences as possible for our students, with particular emphasis on authentic career research.
Our district has identified that these experiences would be:
Program Shadows – these would be related to any Dual Credit program…students would connect with Mr. Parmar in the Career Counselling Center regarding these opportunities.
Job Shadows – these would be district approved experiences…students must connect with Mrs. Laratta in the Career Counselling Center regarding these opportunities.
Virtual Job Shadows – these are new to our district in light of our current environment…students would connect with Mrs. Laratta in the Career Counselling Center regarding these opportunities.
Indigenous Elder Experiences – these are new to our school and Mr. Sodaro will continue to work with our Indigenous Education Department on these.
Career Spotlights – these will be offered to students in a variety of ways, including in person/zoom here at KSS or visits to UBCO/OUC, etc…
All of these Career Life Mentorship Experiences would be considered authentic career research, which meets the district and ministry goals for our graduating students. If you do have students struggling to find authentic career research opportunities, please have them continue checking our Career Mentorship Experience Google Sign-up sheet.
If there are parents and/or community members that would like to volunteer for one of these Mentorship Experiences or willing to contribute to our students' overall experience and development, please contact:
