Purpose – To have an established group of high quality Indigenous based art lessons that are culturally correct, grade appropriate and are solid art education lessons. This will reassure teachers that what they are teaching is culturally appropriate, well researched and that the same subjects and nations are not being repeated each year.
To ensure cultural appropriateness I have worked with Elders from Westbank First Nation and cultural leaders from the Sncəwips Heritage Museum.
The 7 Principles of Teaching Indigenous Art Education is a great introduction to what the background is when teaching Indigenous Art. It is requested that educators who are interested in accessing the lessons below read this document first.
