Career life decisions are influenced by your interests, accomplishments, passions, goals, and challenges. You are made up of millions of unique experiences and moments that shape the person you become.
You will create a learning story that showcases who you are at this point in your life, and what events, experiences and people help to shape you.
Describe at least 3 different events, experiences, or people that you feel have impacted your life.
Discuss how these events, experiences, or people helped to shape you into who you are today. How would you describe yourself? (defining characteristics, values, etc)
* You can share interests, values, accomplishments, passions, goals, challenges, etc….
o Find a few significant ideas that you want to focus on (“Turning Points” in your life).
o Elaborate on these moments or people and describe how they have helped to shape you. What changes occurred?
o Explain the process of change before, during, and after the chosen events.
o Considering how knowing who you are as described will influence your career path decisions.
*Introduce one or more ARTIFACTS. It might be a tool, an implement, a creation… any significant item that represents YOU and your learning journey.
o List off every family member you’re aware of..
o List every friend you’ve ever made in your life.
o List every place/school you’ve been to.
o Talk about an event that has no relation/influence on your career path decisions.
What makes a good story?
- Include detailed examples or experiences.
- Demonstrate how these experiences have shifted your thinking, broadened your perspective, and shaped who you are becoming.
- Include “aha!” moments, learning milestones, struggles, dilemmas, uncertainties, and breakthroughs.
- Include one key example/experience/event or multiple examples to create a comprehensive picture of who you are.
- Explain the process of change before, during, and after the chosen events.
