Elementary School at St. Augustine
Elementary School at St. Augustine
At St. Augustine we are proud to have so many wonderful teachers; each willing to go above and beyond for their students. In grades 1-6 your child will have opportunities to build bonds not just with their homeroom teacher but also with many more. Their homeroom teachers will get to know your child personally, build a strong and caring relationship, and help to ensure they love coming to school every day!

Grade 1-6 Courses of Study
In elementary the focus is primarily on numeracy and literacy. These skills are focused on by the teachers both directly as well as through units of study that follow the programs of study for Religion, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, Math, Health, Phys. Ed, French (grade 4-6) and Career and Technology Foundations (grade 5/6). In most cases your child's homeroom teacher will be the chief instructor for these units. At St. Augustine we are pleased to offer both an Elementary Physical Education and Music Specialists for most of our elementary classes to further enhance your child's exploration of these differing topics.
The Elementary Diverse Learning Teacher (DLT) provides additional support and resources for students who have specialized learning needs in grades 1 to 6. Our Learning Centre provides a quiet and welcoming space where some students in grades 1 to 3 take part in the Levelled Literacy Intervention (LLI) Reading Program. Our St. Augustine also has several Education Assistants that provide 1:1 support as well as small group assistance for our elementary students.
Communication Between School and Home
Our elementary teachers value your involvement in your child's education and understand a close relationship between home and school allows for success in your child's learning. Each teacher has their own preferred method that they communicate home but many have begun to utilize digital communication tools such as Google Classroom or SeeSaw to provide additional avenues for you and your child to discuss what they are learning. More information on these tools, including how to log on/subscribe to updates, will be sent home on the first days of class.
Elementary students (residing over 2.4km from the school, and within our regular boundaries) may be eligible for charter bus service. These buses pick-up and drop-off your child from the school.
Students in our Special Education Programs will be provided busing through Dreams Transportation (https://dreamstransportation.ca/) and will be contacted by the school prior to the first day of school with their assigned pickup/drop-off times.
