The English Department Honors/AP programs at Thousand Oaks High School are rigorous. In order to continue the practice of close reading, build reading stamina, as well as reduce your workload in the fall, we are asking for the cooperation of our students in reading selected works over the summer break.
Reading over the summer is highly recommended for your academic success next year. In addition to easing the transition from one school year to the next, summer readings allow for focused academic growth to start immediately, helping cover necessary material and complete a more diligent curriculum.
When you return in the fall, you will be given an assessment based on your reading following the first two weeks of school. We recommend you obtain your own copies of the books so you can make marginal notes (annotations) in them. You will need to have access to the books in order to complete the assessment.
