Course description

EPIC Wellness is an electives class focusing on the educational, social, emotional, and physical wellbeing of students.  "E-P-I-C" stands for: Educate, Practice, Implement and Connect.

These four activities will be used throughout this course where, in a positive, safe, educational environment students will learn and practice healthy behaviors so they can implement these behaviors in real life scenarios to improve their own wellbeing and make positive connections with others.

The class is designed to increase students’ level of self awareness, social competence and school success through building both intrapersonal and interpersonal skills. Topics will include study skills, time management, stress-management, resilience, self-regulation, empathy, communication, conflict resolution, decision making, goal setting, safety, nutrition, physical activity, and healthy, helpful habits.

This course supports the 7/8 grade California Healthy Education Standards and California’s Social and Emotional Learning Guiding Principles. The goal is to assist students in obtaining accurate information, developing lifelong positive attitudes and behaviors, making wise decisions related to their personal wellbeing and promoting the wellbeing of others so that they will not only be able to survive the challenges the middle school years can bring, but they will be able to thrive as young adults.
