The journey begins with a foundational knowledge of first aid. Through hands-on projects and labs, students will learn and practice the vocabulary, word parts, and abbreviations related to human body systems, medical procedures, and pathological conditions; unravel medical mysteries and investigate disease outbreaks; measure and interpret vital signs; explore the structure and function of the nervous system; delve into forensic science and conduct engaging activities such as brain and eye dissection. Students will develop critical thinking skills as they apply scientific knowledge to solve complex medical cases while learning medical terminology, fostering a deep understanding of the human body and medical science.
Unified PALS (part of our Leadership option)
As a Unified PAL you will be paired with Wiley Middle School students who have special needs.
Your role would be to assist them in the physical education environment or an elective period (art, theatre, or choir). You will work closely with Special Education teachers, general education teachers, and Instructional Assistants to help support these students.
The class will meet daily and will mirror a regular physical education program with possible modifications to activities.
The Special Education students have unique needs and these students will rely on you and your leadership skills to assist them as they participate in the program. You will witness the obstacles these students experience on a daily basis and must be prepared to accept the challenges that may come with supporting these students.
