Does your child possess some of these Common Characteristics of Gifted Children (source: What is Giftedness?):
- Ability to comprehend material several grade levels above their age peers
- Surprising emotional depth and sensitivity at a young age
- Strong sense of curiosity
- Enthusiastic about unique interests and topics
- Quirky or mature sense of humor
- Creative problem solving and imaginative expression
- Absorbs information quickly with few repetitions needed
-Self-aware, socially aware, and aware of global issues
These MAY be indicators that the QUEST program could be beneficial to your child. Screening for the QUEST GT program is based on referral by any adult that knows the student. If you feel your child may have an educational need for gifted services, complete the Referral Forms in the link below in order for them to be screened for the GT QUEST program for the 2024-2025 school year. Referrals for Spring 2024 will open on October 2, 2023 and are due by March 1, 2024. Parents will be contacted by April 1, 2024 if more information is needed. Notification of testing results will be sent out by the last day of school for the '23-'24 school year. Students who qualify for the program after testing will begin QUEST classes beginning in the fall of 2024.
SCREENING: Every student who is referred to the QUEST program is screened. This means I look at your responses to the above forms, the student's ISIP, MAPS, and reading levels, along with ratings from teachers and possibly a creative assessment. If a child's information shows that QUEST would be a good fit, they will qualify for testing.
TESTING: If a child qualifies to test for QUEST, you will receive a permission to test/serve form via email. Once it is signed and returned, I can proceed with testing, using nationally age normed assessments. Results will be emailed to you once testing is completed and the committee has met to determine if QUEST is the best fit for that student.
If a child does not qualify to test, they are still provided enrichment opportunities via their classroom, and our new Enrichment Labs on Wednesdays.
