Senior Portrait Dates- Class of 2024

Senior portraits must be taken first semester to be included in the yearbook. Make an appointment at the PhotoTexas studio as soon as possible to guarantee inclusion.

Photo Texas will be on campus Oct. 24, Dec. 4-8 and Dec. 13 in the AP's office to take senior portraits for the yearbook from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.  Sign up for a timeslot for the Dec. 4-8 dates here and the last day Dec. 13 here

If unable to make an appointment on campus, students must visit the PhotoTexas studio to have portraits taken to be included.

Senior Portrait FAQs

What is a senior portrait?

Senior portraits run in the senior section of the yearbook where each student is wearing a tux or a drape. This is NOT the senior ad section of the yearbook where you can purchase part of (or a whole) page and submit your own photos. These portraits are also used at senior awards in May and at graduation.

Can I submit my own senior portrait for the people section from a photographer I hire?

No, not for your senior yearbook portrait. Photo Texas Photography is the official photography studio for Vandegrift High School. If you do not have your senior portrait taken with Photo Texas, you will not be pictured in the yearbook.

When is the deadline to take my senior portrait?

It is HIGHLY recommended that you take care of this during the fall semester, but technically you have until mid January 2024 to be an emergency add (more mistakes happen here). If you fail to take your portrait by January 2024, you will NOT be pictured in the 2024 yearbook with your classmates, and we want to do everything we can to make sure that does not happen.

How do I get my portrait taken?

Option 1: Take your portrait on campus Oct. 24, Dec. 4-8, Dec. 13 (a Signup Genius will be available at the end of November to sign up for a time in December)

Option 2: Make an appointment at the Photo Texas Photography Studio and take your picture on your own time (as long as it's done by Feb. 1, 2024)

What’s the difference between taking my senior portrait at school versus going to the Photo Texas studio?

You can choose! Either take your senior portrait at school OR go to the local Photo Texas Photography studio.

a.  Why take it at school? It’s free! And it’s a quick 15-minute session. You’ll take your yearbook pose in the tux or drape, and then you’re good to go!

b.  Why take it at the studio? The photographer will spend more time with you, and you can also take a cap and gown photo in addition to a casual portrait with an outfit of your choice. But, please note you will be charged a $20 sitting fee.

If I have an appointment at the Photo Texas Studio, do I have to take my portrait on campus, too?

No, you can make an appointment at Photo Texas Photography studio as long as you take your portrait by February 1, 2024.

Do I have to pay to have my senior portrait taken on campus at VHS?

No, it’s free to take it on campus! But you must sign up for a time slot using the online form via Signup Genius that will be available at the end of November. Walk-ins are not available. Slots will go fast, and these are the only ones we have available. Parents, please coordinate with your senior before signing up so we don't have two appointments per senior.

What if all the on-campus slots are full?

You will need to contact Photo Texas studio and take your portrait at their studio.

What time should I pick for my on-campus portrait?

Please note when selecting a portrait slot, it is up to your teacher’s discretion whether you are allowed to leave their class or not for your portrait. Do not make an appointment during your most academically rigorous class. Off-periods, PIT, before/after school or electives are your best bet.

How will I get out of class to take my portrait?

Teachers will be emailed a schedule based on the signups through Signup Genius. Teachers are not going to let you out during a quiz or exam so please be mindful when you are picking a time and ask your teacher beforehand.

Will I take a cap and gown photo during my on-campus portrait slot?

Yes, you’ll take the tux or drape picture needed for the yearbook, but you will also have an opportunity to take the cap and gown picture. Students can wear black formal instead of the provided if desired.

What should I bring to my portrait session?

a.   Boys should wear a plain white T-shirt. Photo Texas provides the tux shirt, tie and jacket.

b.   Girls should bring a spaghetti strap top and undergarment with straps that can be pushed down slightly over the shoulders. Photo Texas will provide the black drape.

Where do I take my on-campus portrait?

Photo Texas will be set up in the library.
