The school counselor visits every classroom once a month to teach and support students in the exploration of their educational, career, and personal and social/emotional skills. These skills are taught in conjunction with the Second Step curriculum, and it is an additional source of learning and practice opportunities for Tarvin students to improve their social skills.
Social Skills Learning is recognized as a key ingredient for school and life success. To meet these specific needs, Leander ISD adopted the Second Step curriculum. The lessons are taught by teachers in all elementary classrooms in grades K-5 as well as Early Learning Classrooms.
The developmentally appropriate lessons are divided into four units.
Skills for Learning
Empathy
Emotional Management
Problem Solving
The overall goal of Social Skills Learning is to increase student instructional time by helping students stay on task and decreasing behaviors impacting learning.
The No Place for Hare Program is LISD's bullying prevention program, which focuses on student-led activities to promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusivity for all students.
