The process for Stiles NJHS selection is in depth and confidential. Each essay is scored by two readers. The selected candidates must meet the minimum 80% points as well as the majority of faculty council votes. To keep the process anonymous, the advisors are non-voting members of the faculty council and are the only ones that see the names at the end of the process. Each application is scored blindly by the faculty council. The student ID number is the only personal information they see.
Under the national NJHS chapter, students qualify to apply based on their academic performance. However, students also must demonstrate their candidacy in the areas of commitment to service, leadership, character, and citizenship, all of which was reviewed by the faculty council.
A candidate must receive 80% of the total points AND a majority vote by the Stiles faculty council in order to be accepted.
We are not at liberty to share details about individual results with anyone other than the applicant and their family.
