Students will understand "A Day / B Day" schedule at LHS/CPHS
Students will review the graduation requirements - specifically PE, Fine Arts, Languages Other Than English (LOTE)
Students will understand the various ways credits can be earned for these areas.
Students will update their 4YPlanning documents to reflect their hopes.
All students will enter 9th grade under the "LISD Distinguished with Honors" plan. Adjustments can be made away from that plan as the student progress through their courses.
All high schools follow an A Day / B Day Schedule. On A Days, student go to their 1st - 4th periods. On B Days, student go to their 5th - 8th periods.
When updating the 4YPlanning document, this is important. Some classes (athletics, varsity cheer, band, and some versions of dance team) meet every day. Therefore, they take up two (2) spots in the 4YPlanning document. For example:
In order to graduate on the LISD Distinguished with Honors plan, students must earn three (3) years of the same foreign language.
While another graduation plans require only two (2) years of a foreign language, for the sake of practice, we will be asking students to plan for three (3) years.
Students can satisfy their physical education requirement by taking the following courses:
Athletics - meets every day and will take two spots on 4YPlanning document
Sports Medicine, contact your high school counselor for info (PE substitution class)
Cheer - students tryout at the end of 8th grade. Those that make the squad are usually in the freshman or JV squad for their 9th grade year. This level of cheer meets every other day and only takes one spot in the student's 4YPlanning document.
General Dance - This level of dance meets every other day and only takes one spot in the student's 4YPlanning document. Students who enroll in dance receive both the PE and Fine Art credit
Dance Team Prep: This level of dance meets every other day and only takes one spot in the student's 4YPlanning document for 9th grade year. Students who enroll in dance receive both the PE and Fine Art credit. Dance Team Prep is meant to prepare students for Vision and/or Legacy squads.
Band - Students receive 0.5 PE credit for the fall semester of band due to the activity associated with marching band. Students who enroll in band for two years will therefore receive their 1.0 PE credit. Band meets everyday and takes up two spots in the 4YPlanning document.
Physical Education - This course meets every other day and only takes one spot in the student's 4YPlanning document.
Category II Off Campus PE - Students who conduct 5-14 hours of a specific activity can apply for Category II OCPE. Since these students conduct physical education away from school, they can earn their credit without taking the course. In this case, students will earn their PE credit without taking a spot in the 4YPlanning document. Restrictions and approval required.
Category I Off Campus PE - Students who conduct 15+ hours of a specific activity can apply for Category I OCPE. These students will leave campus every day to conduct this activity. Therefore,OCPE Category I takes up two spots in the 4YPlanning document.
