Unit of Study 2--Storytelling Through Music and Theatre

This lively unit introduces students to the foundational elements of theatre and performance through engaging, hands-on activities that build creativity, expression, and collaboration. Starting with imitation, pantomime, and role play, students learn key theatre terms and practice storytelling using body language and emotions. They then develop self-confidence by embodying characters with distinct movements and voices, exploring emotions deeply through paired and group scenes. The unit continues with puppetry, where students create Nutcracker-themed puppets to bring stories to life, blending craft and performance skills. Finally, students celebrate cultural diversity by singing traditional songs, playing rhythms, and acting out stories that connect music and theatre. Throughout, the lessons emphasize respectful audience behavior, teamwork, and expressive communication, all aligned with Texas TEKS standards. This rich journey nurtures young performers’ imagination and confidence, making theatre accessible, fun, and meaningful.
