All students have one (1) graded assignment each week.
Every assignment in Home Access Center (HAC) and Google Classroom under the SAME name.
Grades will demonstrate your mastery of the 4 Spanish language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing as well as the ability to track and reflect the student's own learning progress.
SPANISH 1:
60% — Quizzes/Tests/Projects: Includes vocabulary quizzes, oral and written assessments, and projects.
30% — Daily Grades: Includes written class activities, learning checks, and partner activities.
10% — Learning Tracker & Reflection: Includes ongoing tracking of personal progress, goal-setting, and reflective activities based on TEKS-aligned language skills.
District Assessment Policy
District Assessments provide current, accurate data on student competence in Spanish 1.
If a student needs to improve their understanding or boost their grade, they must follow an individualized plan with the teacher.
SPANISH IV AP:
60%: practice tests, major assignments, essays, etc.
30%: homework, quizzes
10%: self-assessment
Late Work Policy
Late work will be accepted, setting the highest possible grade as an 80 (eighty) within the next 7 (seven) calendar days. Then, additional points will be deducted.
However, exceptions or special circumstances will be considered.
Retakes
My retake policy involves calculating the final grade by taking an average of the original grade and the retake grade. This means that the new score reflects a balanced representation of your performance in both attempts. It encourages improvement and allows for a fair assessment, taking into account the effort and progress made during the retake opportunity.
Example:
Original grade= 40 (forty)
Retake grade= 100 (one hundred)
Final grade= 70 (seventy)
How many absences are too many?
Any student who does not attend 90 % percent of the days a class is offered (excused or unexcused) will be required to make-up attendance hours.
Students and/or parents will be notified of the hours a student owes and a plan will be developed with the administration on acceptable ways the student may make-up the hours owed. Please see LISD Board Policy FEC for additional information.
Studies show that students with 10 or more unexcused absences in a single year were 15.5 times more likely to drop out of high school.
