If you are signed up for band next year, you will need to attend this event! This will give you a great idea of what feels good, what sounds awesome, and then we can work together to get you placed on the right instrument for YOU.
Even if you aren't signed up for band, please come join us!! This is the ONLY time you'll get to try all of the band instruments, and we don't want you to miss out! This will be held in the Leander Middle School Gym.
If you have any questions, please reach out to liz.love@leanderisd.org!
How do I sign up for Band?
You must choose BAND as your FIRST elective choice when you sign up for classes at Leander Middle School! Most choice sheets will be completed on a Google form. We can’t wait to meet you! Remember - 6th Grade is the only year you can try Band.
Do I have to know anything about music to join Band?
Not a thing! Many students who enter our band program have never played an instrument before. That’s what we’re here for!
What are the advantages of being in Band?
Band kids LOVE playing their instruments with other students! Band kids also love our concerts, contests, and learning how to play all different kinds of music for their family and friends. In our yearly survey, most students say that band is their FAVORITE class. Plus, we go on a super fun trip every year!
Does Band involve time outside of the school day?
There are no regularly scheduled practices outside of the school day during the first year of band. Students do have to practice, but our students say it’s the most fun kind of homework!
How do I get an instrument?
You will rent or purchase a new or used instrument from a local music store. We will help you find which store to use, and which instrument brand is exactly right for your student! We also offer financial assistance - if you are concerned about this aspect of band, please reach out to Ms. Love at Liz.Love@leanderisd.org.
Can my child be academically successful and be in the LMS Band Program?
Of course! Many of our students graduate at the top of their class at Leander HS and Glenn HS. Some have gone on to be National Merit Finalists, scholarship winners, and many achieve at very high levels in advanced programs at the high schools. Band teaches time management skills, and students have other band members to help with homework and studying!
Can my child participate in sports and other activities while taking Band?
Absolutely! We encourage our band members to participate in athletics, dance, cheer, and other activities. Many of our band members are the star athletes at LMS as well as leaders in all academics!
