Pre-Athletics is for young athletes who want to participate in UIL sports in 7th and 8th grade. Coaches will teach the foundational skills for team sports through individual and group instruction. Pre-Athletes will gain valuable sport-specific skills while reaping the benefits of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.
Girls Coaches:
Pre-Athletic Periods:
3rd Period: 10:51-11:38
7th Period: 1:54-2:40
Overview:
Students participating in Pre-Athletics must recognize that the workouts will build up to, and then be comparable to, the workouts we give to our 7th and 8th grade athletes. The mental and physical demands are greater than what they may experience in a regular PE class. Physically, the course will focus on athletic conditioning, strength, agility and sport specific skills. Throughout the course, leadership skills, responsibility, academic awareness and many other aspects will be included to ensure the development of the whole child. Most of all, sixth grade student-athletes will have fun and believe in themselves as they gain confidence through sports.
Grading Policy:
A student earns 20 points a day for their grade, with the final grade of the week being a 100 if they participate and dress out every day for class. The 20 points are broken down into 2 categories - 10 points for participation and 10 points for dressing out correctly in the required uniform and some type of non-marking athletic/tennis shoe. Students must come to class prepared to participate in a safe manner and this begins with the proper shoe attire. If a student does not wear the correct shoes or wears inappropriate shoes needed for pre-athletics, a student will lose 20 points for that day and it will be considered a “no-suit.” A student will not be allowed to participate if they are not in some type of non-marking tennis/athletic shoe. Parent contact will be made on the second time the student fails to dress out and also when he/she fails to wear the correct shoe.

All pre-athletics and lifetime fitness students are required to wear a uniform in class. Please bring $40 so we can order your uniform if you did not prepurchase in May or July. Last day to bring money is Aug. 22. Cash or check to Leander Middle School.
