Hello!
My name is Devin Eatmon and this is my 26th year teaching in the Leander School District and 16th year at Leander High School. For the 2023-2024 school year, I will be teaching AP Human Geography and AP Modern World History.
I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History and English from Angelo State University and my Master’s of Educational Administration from Concordia University.
My classroom philosophy reflects a “standard of excellence” in all work assigned and the expectation is that students give their best effort. Everyone, teacher, students and parents, are involved in the learning process. I believe my job is to help students to achieve their best by offering academic challenges and providing tools to help achieve success. To that end, my classes are taught “seminar style” which means there will be a great deal of discussion, note taking and outside reading. In addition there will also be projects and simulations to explore topics. I have the expectation that students are to come to class well prepared in order to participate. Students will also be asked to research individually or in groups on various topics and present findings. Academic Integrity and honesty will be expected at all times.
I am the occasional wanderer who is seeking always trying new and exciting outdoor adventures. Outside of school, I enjoy exploring National Parks and hiking, being an avid reader and have an admiration of home cooking, good coffee and I love a good hamburger. My nerdy side enjoys sci-fi (Star Wars in particular) and new rediscovered Lego building. I am also settling into being a homeowner and learning new home skills as well as doing my best to staying active and eating healthy. I lost my best buddy Max in Jan 2023 but rescued a new pup this summer who is named Maggie. We are learning to enjoy going on adventures and exploring the Hill Country.
Howdy Lions,
I'm Mr. Mancuso! I was born in Warren, Michigan and have lived all over Texas: San Antonio (elementary), Houston for 6th grade through high school. San Marcos for college and Austin ever since!!!
I was lucky enough to go to Germany in 1989 when the Berlin wall was coming down. I have several pieces of the wall in my "relics" collection for you to view.
I then went to college at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas (now known as Texas State) and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Geography. I worked for ten years at various sales and management jobs at companies such as Dell, Leap Frog School House, and several mortgage companies and banks helping people buy, sell, and refinance houses. After the mortgage bubble busted, I went to graduate school at Texas State in Round Rock to get my Master of Education degree and teacher certification. I'm married to my lovely wife, Brandi, and have four children: Jaimie, Eric-Anthony, Madison, and Mason.
I enjoy wake boarding, snow boarding, and playing drums. I hope you enjoy AP Human Geo and take away a love for learning.
Last year I was happy to have 91% of my students pass the AP test and get college credit. The state of Texas had about 50% of students pass the exam! My goal this year is a 92% pass rate. This will be the hardest class you take this year, and the ONLY true Advanced Placement class for freshmen. This means you will work harder than you ever have before. But the work will pay off when you use Human Geography throughout your life! TRUTH.
