Frequently Asked Questions:
1. Q: "What does my child need for dance class?"
A: The only thing they will need for dance class is all black workout/ dance attire. Depending on what unit we are in, footwear will vary. If your child owns dance shoes (ballet slippers, jazz shoes, etc.) they are encouraged to bring them. However if they do not have dance shoes they can dance barefoot, or in socks for certain units- no need to go out and buy anything! If they do not have black athletic wear- they can wear any dark colored athletic wear. Logos and designs are fine! We will not dress out until the second week of school, so if you have questions about the attire bring what you have and I will let you know if it will work for the rest of the year!
2. Q: "Where will my child dress out for class?"
A: All girls will dress out in the dance studio, all boys will dress out in the 6th grade bathroom.
3. Q: "What styles of dance will be taught?"
A: Your child will learn a wide range of dance styles that all build off of one another! We will be covering ballet, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, high kick, and pom; in that order. Following this we will be working in small groups to complete a choreography project to end out the semester!
4. Q: "How will my child be graded?"
A:Students will be graded on an 80/20 split for participation and assessments. The participation grade (80%), is based on participation in class as well as dressing out for class. The assessment grade is based on how they perform in their small group assessments at the end of each unit. While this may sound scary- assessments are performed in small groups only for the me (Coach Carter), with everyone else facing away!
5. Q: "Do you have a class syllabus?"
