GRADING CATEGORIES:
0% Practice
All assignments for attempts at mastery
Everything we do in class is evidence for Mastery
100% Mastery (Essential Outcomes)
For each unit, students will have one grade
This grade will reflect their mastery of the Essential Outcome we are focusing on for that unit
Each attempt at mastery will be a chance for students to show how much they have learned
Evidence of mastery is triangulated through the following methods:
Observation (collaborative group work, individual student work)
Conversation (class discussion, student group discussions, 1:1 conversation)
Product
Attempts at Mastery
The Culminating Activity at the end of each unit - this will be students' last chance to change their grade
A final mastery grade is NOT based on the highest level they reach at an attempt or purely the most consistent; a student must consistently show their improvement
It is the expectation that students will have lower grades in the beginning and will improve as the unit progresses.
ESSENTIAL OUTCOMES:
During this year, every Texas History unit will have 1-2 Essential Outcomes or topics the students will be assessed on. Each Essential Outcome will have at least 2 attempts which will be various activities showing their mastery level. These activities could be classroom discussions, projects, writing, essays, or quizzes.
RUBRIC-BASED GRADING BASICS:
Students will be assessed on the most critical attributes of the Social Studies curriculum. These skills are represented on a rubric (scores 1-4), with detailed explanations of what achievement looks like at each level.
Rubrics will be accessible for each Essential Outcome and can be found on the 7th Grade Texas History Department Website.
GRADING POLICIES:
Late Work:
Since we do our work in class, late work will not be accepted.
Corrections Policy:
If a student would like to increase their grade for an EO, they will need to complete another assignment as an additional attempt at mastery in tutorials during Power Hour.
Absence Policy:
UIL-Related Absences: ANY missed work due to a UIL-related absence is due the day you return, per district policy.
Standard District Absence Policy: Students have as many days as they were absent to turn in any missing work and/or make up any missed assessments during the time they were absent.
Example: If you missed two days, you would have two days to make up work missed during those two days. This includes assessments and assignments.
It is the STUDENT'S responsibility to check Google Classroom and come to a make-up tutorial session during Power Hour.
Academic Dishonesty:
Academic dishonesty will NOT be tolerated under any circumstance. Cheating, copying, or plagiarism of any form, or using AI without permission, will result in failure of the assignment, disciplinary action (referral), and parent contact.
